Just picked up a astro van steering shaft and it seems like it needs to be lengthened to fit on my bubble gm. Is this a stock type swap or do I have to fabricate it to work

IDK but they do make two different length astro van shafts. The ones off the plastic headlamp astros are longer than the older ones.

This one was off a newer one with plastic headlights I forgot to get the year, it had a rubber sleeve over the shaft I had to cut off. And it looks like the end that bolts too the steering wheel side is a different size or shape.

OK so I took the stock car shaft off the car, went to put astro shaft on and its about 2.5 inches to short. So I separated both shafts and put the astro gear box end and the car firewall end together. So is this the way you do it or ? and how strong is that factory joint at the fire wall?
