Hi All, Running my first Ford powered Ford. going into a stock derby, never played with the Ford stuff (always Chev power for me). Ay tips on what to do with all the electrical? I have also never ran fuel injected. The car is a 1990 Town Car, totally stock 5.0 EFI.
Any tips/hints would be great.

Look at the Running a stock 4.6 thread, you can set up a 5.0 wiring almost the same way.I would link the thread for you but I have no clue how to do that. I've run lots of stock fords so if you need anything just ask.

The motors are good, Just that with efi more to go wrong to make the engine run rough... just basics really move any and all wiring up out of the way such as on top of motor.Especially relay switches etc on inner fenders.Only other thing I'd worry about is condition of fuel line and fuel pump.A bad fuel pump(weak) can make a motor stall.Pretty sure you need to move the wire in the core support also.Try to unplug it and reroute it.

OK, thanks for the advice. I am putting in a new fuel pump (for the cost I am not going to screw around with old crap), and have new lines (every year, why take a chance).
I saw in the 4.6 thread, guys said move or cut one thing at a time then make sure she still starts and runs good, I will probably do that as I am moving stuff around (so I don't get my self into a bad spot not knowing what I did wrong).
Thanks again. Any other advice is always appreciated.... man I wish the stock show would let me run a carb....

If your running the stock tank rewire the fuel pump to a switch-pink/black is hot and black is ground. Pull the thermostat and cut the center out.You can reroute all the wiring just like a 4.6,don't cut anything just bundle it up in the back. I ran the 5.0 engines for years, even in shows where I could have swapped in a chevy. The square body vics are all gone where I live so now we run 4.6's.Ford efi engines never stall when you set them up right.

We 've been running stock 5.0 efi for a few years. They run pretty good. Do not eliminate grounds. (computer) , barometric pressure sensor or map sensor or main ign. wire red w/green trace.

the car I am going to run is a 1990 town car. and the rules say "carb stays carb, injected stays injected"
running my normal fuel cell, and using a new inline pump, running the return back to the tank.
So I am stuck with the EFI.
OK, I have heard that, grounds important, should I even add in some more, just to be sure? (incase one breaks, better to have some extra grounds)
Are there any sensors or anything I can eliminate with out any negative effects?

Also, headers or no headers? I have not run a car without them, but I don't have any Ford headers.... before I make or buy some, what is everyone's opinion?

Never ran one with headers, but they don't stall so you really don't have to hear it running. I wrap the starter with some heat shield just in case though.

do they tend to run hot? I run an aluminum rad with an electric fan, I know the theory is that the headers (especially if they are wrapped) get more heat up and out of the engine compartment.... any thoughts?

I'd say no headers with efi because your wires and whatnot are on top or near the motor so it Just makes less chance of stuff to go wrong. Also were not talking about much heat anyhow so just remove the plastic inner fenders and the compartment will be cool anyhow.Any and all grounds that I do are always battery direct grounded.I don't rely on body grounds as this is demolition derby and ground straps will break or corrode.I had a ground strap from body to chasis break on my 99 f550...Which caused me to have no lights for example.

you can get rid of all the EGR stuff, o2 sensors.. ya can leave them off too.. run extra body grounds,, wire the fuel pump to directly the battery through a switch.. install a back up starter button,, loop the heater hoses,, you may have to extend some wires.. there is a computer ground off the neg cable,,,,, extened that back to the battery,, \ mainifolds work.... weld some exhaust pipe on where you cut the cats off,, here is an old stock show one,,
