Thanks for the info Lenny. I've been traveling for work and was unable to take a look until yesterday. After comparing the 2 driveshafts, I see what you mean. The Lincoln one has an additional ring at the u-joint end of the yoke. The driveshaft is a little longer aswell. The yoke on the grand marq/ vic did not have that ring and it was shorter. The lincoln yoke also has a smooth section prior to the splines engaging. In the end of the day I ended up with the longer transmission (Lincoln) in the shorter car (Grand Marq). Now to decide if I should shorten the driveshaft or swap transmissions. I'm thinking the driveshaft will be easier since I assume I'll have to move the transmission mount to get the swap to work.

The trans mount should be in the same place the Lincoln AOD just has a longer tail shaft.

I normally run full size using a 302 and AOD trans. I am curious to what 4 cyl or 6 cyl engines an AOD and torque converter will bolt to. Say a friend wants to get into the rear wheel drive compact world but run ford 6 cyl or less engine with AOD transmission.

There aren't any 4 cylinders that I know bolt right up to a sbf trans but some 250 in lines 300-6 and 3.8 v6 do.

rhull - thanks, I'll start doing my homework on the 3.8 V6. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ford_bellhousing_patternsI've never ran a 3.8, but from what I hear they aren't too easy on head gaskets. You might have more fun with a V6, but you'd probably get more wins with a 2.3... C3s are pretty good transmissions and not that hard to find, or find a C4 bellhousing for a 2.3 out of a pinto or stang II. Those are kind of rare though. They do make a steel bell for a 2.3/C4, but they are like $500-$600. There were also some c4s in the early ranger and fix bodies with a 2.3, again they are rare.

I read that to about the 3.8 head gaskets being problematic. I was hoping I could find something an AOD would bolt to since I have spare ones around. Guess I will think it through and read the 2.3 engine thread.

Does anyone know the size or a part number for the transmission cooler line fittings for an AOD trans. Not the fitting on the line it’s selg the adapter fitting the line goes into in the side of the trans?
Any help would be awesome.
