That's what I thought it was going to be to steep but with 7.00 15s it's perfect pretty damn fast to lay the hits in a hurry and get outta the way when needed. No tricks just a good carb and set the timing right. no one be leaved it was a caddy motor till they saw it Now it goes in every stock car we build and I just picked up a 2nd 425 Imo there a prefect stock class motor

When i blew a lower radiator hose in a stock class with a 425 it lasted maybe 6 or 7 minutes of hard driving before it died on a hit and turned over too slow to fire back up.

As far as the 472, I LOVE them!!! they are torque monsters just dont expect alot of rpms from them. run a good carb and set the timing correctly and they will dish it out all night even hot.

The oil pumps in them are weak in an engine with any miles at all from my experience they will start to knock and have had em lock up bc no oil psi I would change it and like everyone else run a good carb and set the timing rite and they will run.... I ran one 500 from 2000 till 2005 when it finally got hot enough to blow head gaskets and I just junked it I had a 4 brl edelbrock on it never had a problem wrecked many of coups with it lol

I like this thread. Gives the normal guy who doesn't have race motor some piece of mind if they are going to run what's already in the car when bought. I'm sure a lot cars been pasted up because of the belief that the original running engine needs to pulled out and replaced. First thing on any of these motors if running them. Starter and fuel pumps need to be replace. If not when they get hot they won't want to start or run. Good oil should be used not the cheapie crap that turns into water when hot. One thing to keep in mind with these us they sit for a long time and what happens moisture gets inside the motor and mixes with the oil and causes a sludge to form. Which isn't good for any motor. This could be caused also by a pvc system not operating correctly during driving. Doesn't hurt to pull a valve cover to take a look.
