Thought I'd post this to remind people that you can make a ford/gm hybrid rearend. the gm 31 spline axle splines fit a ford 31 spline spool, the bearings are different. I cut the gm tubes off, put them on a ford center. (actually I put them on 9 3/8 suicide centers) Why? I have accumulated both types of rearends and doing so makes it so I can have some gears and good axles and an easy coil setup for the occasional coil car I may run. Much easier than making a gm10 bolt/12 bolt axle hybrid with gears imo since gearing a gm rear isnt a fun project for me and I dont have a 10 bolt gm rear anymore anyway. Of course putting coil components on a leaf axle is easy but thats not the point here. I was reading how gm 31 spline axles are getting hard to come by so I thought I'd hint that I suspect you could cut off ford tubes.....also, some of the vendors like Postalmopar sell differnt bearing ends you can weld on your tubes to make a hybrid.

any tips for removing carrier bearings without ruining them besides the $250 yukon tool? The bearings are cheap enough that it's almost not worth trying to save them. With that being said iv pressed them off using a bearing splitter, hydraulic press and a mandrel that fit the carrier just to say I did it.

Is there any differences in the axle shafts from box Ford 8.8 to bubble Ford 8.8? disc brakes on most newer bubbles and drums on boxes some police cars have a slightly better gear ratio but both box or bubble the 8.8 axles snap like toothpicks

My question is are the axle shafts interchangeable between the 2 housings or are the lengths different
