I have a 96 crown vic and i was wondering what rear ends you all are running. I currently can get a dana 60 but i dont not want to have to modify the rear end and get new axels. Any help appreciated thanks.

Pretty much any rear end you will have to modify to fit.

9" with homemade axle savers but you will have to weld upper and lower control arm brackets on housing

I dont mind slight mods just dont want to have to buy new axles for the car? I have a drag car with a dana 60 so i have quite a few gears for one and i also have a few for a ford 9 but i have had trouble finding a 9"

Put a 10 or 12 bolt bolt-in gm rear in it. It will bolt directly into the Ford.

worse then runnin a 10 bolt bia.... the 28 spline axles taper off real fast.. while a 31 spline 9" has a solid axles with very little taper and an overall larger diameter axle.... 10 bolts are alot easier to open the back up to fix... on a 9" you have to pull the whole 3rd member out... !... any specific question feel free to ask

What does the taper do and what is typically seen damage wise. Snapped axle, etc.

I ran a 28 spline 9" with welded gears for 4 years never had a problem with it. But when i pulled the axles to make some axle savers i noticed that the drivers side axle splines were twisted. So i guess that's the only problem i had with them not bad for 4 years and it was behind a 460.
