I've heard by word of mouth that just behind the crush box was the best if you had to keep the stock mounts in. Just wanted some opinions from experience. I've always cut and tilted with them body off.

I have always cut and weld tilted when allowed. However, I have cold tilted (repaired) a couple prerans right behind the boxes without ever touching the mounts with decent success. I have no experience to offer on a fresh car. I agree with all the previous statements. Changing the mounts is always best, and if allowed why wouldn't you. Im just saying in a pinch it can be done without touching them.

Are you allowed to change mounts? Can you do any welding on the frame? That will help us answer your question a whole lot better. I have had better luck behind the boxes but it is up to you.......

Just tried the pie cut method of tilting on an 84 vic for the first time. I made a 1/2 in cut half way up the frame 18 in behind the crush box and let it drop and rewelded... now I have about a 5 inch gap between the body and the crush boxes.. Will the body pull all the way down ? or will I need to run spacers between the body and crush boxes ?

Put 3 inch spacers in and suck body down to that. If you suck it down without sspacers you'll have a several piece bell housing
