On boat tank, I just use a vented cap. On a regular cell, I use a vent hose up to the roof, then back down through the floor. That way no more than the hose can hold will be spilled, and it won't be spilled inside the car.

^^^^^^Tie the bottom of that hose in place, so it can't slip back up inside the car.

Made my new tank, came out great! No leaks and no issues. The spring check valve works phenomenally well! Welded in, rust proofed, then a layer of fiberglass just for an extra seal.

If it's gm that's a new one on me. As long as you have 12v (+) and a ground going to pump itself I fail to see how the sender unit would matter.

96 Honda civic....there is a two wire connecter on the top of the pump lid.under the lid of the pump housing the two wires go to a ground on the pump body and I guess a 12 volt power that goes to the pump itself....maybe I removed a ground for the pump, and the only way it works is if the sending unit is plugged in...there was only one ground inside the car that is even in the same harness.its under the drivers seat.i removed it,turned the car on to make sure it would start, and moved on.but it was before I took out the tank, and un plugged the sending unit.maybe the fuel level unit has a ground that also works for the pump.

My neon was having problems starting after I unplugged the sending unit, like it wouldn't even run from starting fluid without the plug plugged in. I tried to put in an inline aftermarket fuel pump to keep from buying stock pumps after burning them up. After trying to mess with it for about a week or so, i just gave up and went to the junk yard and got a factory pump and it runs great now. I find it odd that those plugs have to be plugged in for it run? It was almost like there was supposed to be a signal to the coils saying "fire because its plugged in" and since it wasn't plugged in, it wasnt sending that signal?

When I built mine I put it in a piece of 8x8 square 1/4 wall tubing and welded it all up. Also took the filler neck from the body and welded it on that way I had a breathing cap.

This past August I ran at a local fair in the compact derby. Usually I just drop in the factory fuel pump in my fuel cell and run. This time the hits from the derby tore apart the factory pump causing my car to shut off and getting 4th place out of 34 cars. I cut off everything but the top cap of the fuel pump and put a piece of all thread through as a mount for the pump, then I attached the new pump to the fuel pump using hose clamps. I just wired the pump direct to the battery with a kill switch.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and new to demolition derby. I currently have a 2003 alero I am building. As most of you probably know, these cars have incredibly sensitive antitheft systems, because of this I am looking for how I should run my fuel lines and fuel pump either in tank/in line and if going with an inline fuel pump can I do away with the wiring that went to the original fuel pump and wire the inline pump to a toggle switch? Anything you can give me would be appreciated.

Just remove the old tank and pump and cut the old wires to the pump. I run my fuel lines through garden hose inside the car through the firewall.
