I know this was a big question on the old forums, so i'm bringing it back and it would be a good idea to sticky it again. Here is a Youtube video of how I build mine: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgR1MBdmILs

We just pop the holdin ring off the tank and take the sending unit out that way. Then we cut a round hole and put lil screws around the ring onto the tank and then of course seal it

X2 works great. don't even need to be a round hole with silicone. ;D Not sure if you can see it real well.

This is my current fuel cell I built this year for my cars before i put the plate on top and put angle iron on the bottom. I had run a boat tank but the first run I ran it without a protector and it got dented good when the car bent funny. Anyway It's a 10-12 gallon hydraulic resevoir tank that I cut in half and welded a plate on the open end. I then cut a hole in the top welded some studs in and made a plate with fittings on it that bolts down to the top i usually use fiber gasket and seal all to make sure it won't leak. This is the best design I have come up with so far it does take up a bit of room on a FWD car, it is pretty easy to switch from external fuel pump for carburetion to internal fuel pump for EFI. The best part is it only cost me 25$ total including fittings to make. Hope this helps someone whose building a new tank.

Full weld car Had a beak on it before i bought it the guy cut if off when i bought it. That car will probably get turned into a pro-mod/figure 8 car next year so I'll probably be keeping it on there. Just trying something out.

1) I've seen that design where the fuel pump just dangles inside the tank, supported only by the rubber hose connected to it. Does that really work? I can't believe that with all the harsh accelerations from impact forces it doesn't tear loose from all that flopping around.
2) I bought a new M&M boys standard tank and grafted the sealing ring and complete sending unit from a Lumina tank right to it using the same basic process as what is in the Youtube video in the first post. Works great, seals without goo, and if the pump ever dies, changing it is as simple as it is for a stock tank.
3) where in the world are you guys finding metal boat tanks? I've been searching for literally YEARS and all I can find are ones that are rusted to $hit inside. Plastic boat tanks are the only useable ones I can find and you sure can't weld a stock sending unit onto those
