First time ever in a derby. I still had the shifter on the column and key ignition. My car died and I tried to refire it. But it wouldn't turn over. My passenger checked the battery cables they were still on. So I couldn't figure it out. About 30 seconds after I broke my stick I realized it was still in gear. I put it in park and then it fired right up lol. I laugh about it to this day Your not the only one to do that. My cousin did the same thing in his first derby. I don't know why people run cars without a solid wheel or taped up. I taped mine up and left 4 corner spots untaped to steer easier. Never stuck my arm through and never had a problem steering. Duct tape is cheap!!

Twice I've had the rotor button break inside the cap without the cap moving/ breaking in the first few hits and one time made 2 hits and my steering shaft came apart forgot to put a stop on the shaft Had this happen to me last year in the feature while using a buddies setup. Very strange, all we could figure out is maybe just a hairline crack in it and being on the throttle at the time of a nose shot made it throw the brass terminal off. There were no contact marks inside the cap.... Just one of those dumb luck deals...

I ran a 95 camry in my first enduro race this summer. The race was about 20 laps and around lap 15 I noticed my car felt like it had no power and there was smoke coming from under the hood, look down at my temp gauge and it's all the way in the red, so I pull into the infield and shut it down. Got the car home, pressure tested the cooling system, just to realize the radiatior cap was bad. Bought a 5 dollar radiator cap online cars been running cool ever since

I'm shocked nobody has mentioned running out of gas yet I had a close call last year in a figure 8 race. Was in a hurry to get my backup car ready for the second night loaded it on the trailer and never even thought to put gas in it until I got to the track and didn't have any with me. Ran 3 heats, loaded it on the trailer and when I went to unload it the next morning it was out. I was that close

Three cars left in the feature, one had a fire and we was waiting for the green flag again but while waiting I noticed a crack in a hose going to my tranny cooler which was attached to the inside firewall. By the time I noticed a few quarts of tranny fluid was on the passenger floorboard. Had I acted sooner I had a pair of pliers with me,I could have just loosened the hose clamp, slid the hose up farther and retightened it.When the green flag dropped again, when I put it in gear,it was too low on fluid to move. Crowd thought I threw first place to the other driver and got a lot of "boo's" from the crowd.

Ran the first fair derby and had issues at Cayuga,IN. Came back to the weekend show and made feature. Went out for feature and went to back up early in the feature and backed over a log. They had shortened the track up about 20 feet since the mid-week show. Stupid mistake.

A promotor had a rule all tanks and batteries must be covered. When a buddy put a cover over his fuel cell, he pinched the line with a bungy cord. Car got on to the track and into the lineup, then wouldn't fire back up before the green flag dropped. No hits and they wouldn't let him in the consi because he made no contact with anybody.

Got to the derby hour late, only two heats, just made it on time for second heat, last one to the areana then my front tire falls off 5 feet away from the entrance and the crowd lol. Judges let us put on a spare. Made a couple hits and got black balled for drivers door.

I've had the air intake tube coming off problem my self after the derby I realized I forgot to tighten the clamp that held it on. Put it back on and it ran great for the 2nd chance lol

Boscoble fall show this year...
Get there on time (3 hours)..... car is running like a champ. got some fresh diggers on the front of it, 90's W body. I have the wires rerouted for the EFI and fuses that I need to keep it running arms length away so I can hit them if it dies to make sure they are plugged in....... One hit in I see someone has a too heavy of tires for their car and I rip it off... My car dies..... (I ran out of time to make headers on the 3100) so im cranking it over and cant hear if its running or doing anything. I get timed out, break my stick and look over and realize I forgot about the fuses..... put my thumb on them and give them a little wiggle.... flip the ignition.... Car starts right back up.....Lessons learned, Run headers and make sure fuses are okay.

My first derby ever. Was a Ford Tempo. So excited/scared/nervous, all the emotions running wild. Built the car, did a nice paint job. Spent the time. Derby day comes and I pull onto the track for best paint. Promoter comes around to each driver yada yada. Gets to me, I tell the crowd its my first derby, gonna run this thing into the ground, talk a little shoot, crowds loving it. Derby starts and I take a light hit to the rear and car dies and will not start. Proceeded to take a few nasty hits sitting there since all the other drivers heard my speech. I didn't get to make one hit on anyone. Broke my stick after about a minute of getting my @$$ handed to me. Emberassed as hell.........always remember to bypass the fuel cut off switch......
