There are tons of stories about dumb stuff happening that ended our runs far too early... let's hear em
my second build I put together a really elaborate wiring harness, soldered all connections, it was flawless!!! Except I cheaped out on the toggles and had all flat spade connectors on the back side of them... In my second heat I had one good hit knock half the wires off the backs of the toggles and finish me, i was counted out and broke my flag long before i noticed my bullet proof wiring harness dangling shiny connectors behind my control panel... i could have sworn i could hear the engine cranking too....

Mine would have been in a 88 Vic. Stock 302. I had wired in switches but left the key to work for security. Well in my heat I made a hit and hit key with my knee. Finally figured it out after I was timed out.

First demo I had an 84 c10. Hit somebody and the plastic master cylinder cover flew off, lost all brakes. Came across the track, missed the guy I was aiming for hit the wall hard as ever and broke the column shaft and ruined tranny linkage. Before I knew anything about floor shifters and custom columns.

First time running, ran a ranger. Drove into the heat after asking for a suicide start [full track north to south] at the drivers meeting. Put it in the corner, died. Got it running again, flag dropped, died. Couldn't get her running. Got full tracked and broke a finger. Pushed over the wall, done. They took me off the wall, I fired her up and drove her to the pits. Fuel line got pinched under the bed. I didn't give it enough slack....

The car in my avatar was hard as hell, took it super easy in the heat, let my buddies do all the work, came out strait as a pin...came down to 4 in finals,I delivered head on shot, backed off...an the guy come at me again, barely hit me,my hot wire fell out my distributed, then he pushed me on the wall....had the wire clipped on,taped on and zip tied on,don't know how it came out but it did...SHYT happens to us all,lol

Myself, shut down a perfectly running motor because I though I had a hole in the oil pan, pulled my wires apart and broke my stick just to look up and realize the guy in 5th was on the clock already and I wasnt. If I would of waited I would of atleast been in the money. Dumb mistake on my part...it wont happen again ill melt that pig to the ground like i normally do before I shut it off. To this day I dont know what made me shut it down.

Ran my first show this summer, and I didn't know how to properly mount a bumper... see picture of bumperless car below. After the heat my right bumper shock had exploded apart. I welded it back up and chained it for the feature, but I forgot to chain the other side. Got hung up on my own bumper when it came off because the chain held one side on

Had a fully welded up, imp subbed etc 67 Fury. A rookie in my heat had a chained together 80s GM, but talked ALOT of sh&t before the heat. I decided to track shot him early in the heat, just to kinda prove a point, ya know. The good news-I drive straight through the damn thing, & damn near out the other side LOL. The bad news-That's where I stayed, hung up LOL

In the Youth class I ran a 98 Camry. The airbags are a real pain to take out so my dad and I decided to just cut all the wires and fuses out that had to do with them. 25 car heat got down to 4 and both airbags went off. My passenger and I were a little shook up but fine. But the fair board wouldn't let us keep going.which sucked cause the car that got third was on the clock and I was the only car with no flats and steering.to this day we don't know why they went off that late or at all but we learned and know we make sure we take out them airbags

Took an Imperial at half track. Both of us died and never moved again. Found out that my battery cable had been knocked loose... Could of had a 3rd place finish. Now that's the first thing I check when the starter won't engage.

I also did the spade connector thing once back in the circle track days, but the most embarrassing was about my 3rd derby in a 95 Corsica. The rear was pretty folded in and hard to see, except for a 2" hole I had in the trunk lid for the chain. I decided to track a guy for the win (before I knew that you could drive forward lol) so I held the ol' 3.1 to the wood in reverse to pile drive this dude through the trench.... And missed. Lost sight of him through my little hole and plowed into the opposite trench bank at about 50mph and got buried in gravel. He drove away and took the win
