cut inch and half-2 out of shock and shove it all the way in. Then add a better angle bracket to the back of shock where it bolts to the top of the frame and bolt it through the frame where factory rear shock bolt goes. tap the bottom hole you make and nut it on the bottom... if ya follow me.... Upside down Monte on the front... On the front shock do this, but use a hardened full thread bolt that is long enough to go through the top of the frame, through the shock bracket, then reach the bottom of the frame. It will take some grinding to get the length right. How big of all thread you talking?

The frame will bend right behind this bolt. If the bolt goes through the top, through the bracket, and then bottoms out to the bottom of the frame (on inside) then it keeps the frame from collapsing as easily.
The bolt is supposed to look stock. It's basically vertically pinning the frame. You would get an even better result if you drilled the hole perfectly and welded the bolt on the bottom end once you get it through the layers.

Well after all the rain we got I finally got engine and trans out. Picked up a 76 impala bumper since I got it cheap figure it's a better bumper then the Monte rear. First one for me to run. So guys anything special need to be done when seam welding it? Cage goes in this week.

dash bar is going to be 6 inches forward from where it's at here so it's in the pillars. Got it all marked so I can pull it out and start welded and drilling for the bolts to hold in place. this is the pieces to go on each side of cross tubed to hold and brace it from movingm. There will be more gussets added in place to. This is just to get them in place. Tomorrow I'll start welding so I can bolt it in place and get started on gas tank protector and halo.

Them girls dont do well with a 76 bumper up front.. unless you happen to "fix" A arm forward I know from talking to you over the past year what im getting at but imo 76 bumpers are one of the most overrated bumper especially stock or just seam welded I've ran 5 and broke 5 in half or at least cracked them to the point I junked with the car, too much leverage on them besides that and they are like I said very hard on metric gm a arm forward

Ya it's just the spot the metrics give at easy got to address that issue. Which will be addressed. I've had good results of not giving a arms forward. That bumper is a 80 up gm rear bumper. Took 4 shows to break it. When I drive a gm I don't drive near as hard but drive smart. You put me in a Ford your in for a show. I'm building this gm and then a Ford wagon to see which turns out better with my build style (thinking it's gonna be ford tho).

You can run the stock aluminum front with decent results: Run a carriage bolts through the metal layer, aluminum backing, through to the shock. Washer and nut each layer. It will hold up, but it's a bit of work. It's another option if you are confined by rules.

Ya I've saw people run the aluminum but I'm not running stock bumpers. I got access to plenty of different bumpers. Decided to try out the 76 impala for this one if it breaks easy I'll put a tubing bumper on it.

What is your plan for the rear to get it to go up predictably?
