So this weekend at crossroads i seen many guys take a hit and immediately break their stick. car still running or not. why would someone break their stick the second after getting hit? they werent even trying to start their car up if it died.

whats easier battling 7-8 cars until only your car is running, or break your stick after one tap and go through a heat of cars that have already been pounded into submission and only need to be one of the last 3 running? I see this happen now and again, I make it my mission to knock out these guys first in a final.

Even seen it out our way where they may take like 5 cars out of consi to advance and only 4-5 come back out. Advance without even having to run the consi. Smart or chicken-$#!@. Hmmmm....... On the other hand, don't we have to protect our investment? If we derby, we might break something. Yuck! "Just puked in my mouth a bit".

Hard to say, each may have a different reason for it. One example is if you break a driveshaft or transmission. Car is still running but you have zero chance of doing anything. If you're down towards the end, you leave your stick up hoping to get into the money. If it happens fairly early there's no point in sitting there, dead in the water, and having people break more stuff on your car. At that point you may as well save it for a different show.

Last year at bash someone i talked to broke their stick after one hit because the bell housing was cracked and making noise so they were gonna fix it and go the the consi but that was more work than they wanted to do.

1:50 in on 2nd heat of Metal Mayhem heat 2 last year. www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_nEshg_Rjw#23 Runs over bumper, thinks he lost the drive shaft I bet, then try's to restick. Flagman says no way. 1 min into it the other cars pushed him off the bumper. It's another example of never break your stick. Now he moved to consi and won that, but I don't think they odds favor the consi majority of the time. Plus, promoters sometimes change the rules mid stream so it probably isn't worth the chance. Unless someone's barreling at you and tracking you, keep the stick on until someone tells you it's over.

A wise man knows when to break his stick. I never break mine until the officials make me. I never claimed to be wise.

I usually wait til their jumping on my hood. But if my odds really really suck, and it's heats, I'll break off and take my chances in the consi. The goal is making the last hit in the final, right ?

I was actually there this week to watch and noticed this. Most of the time it was because of a major problem that they had. I noticed drive shafts went a lot and rear ends broke. Drivers at these shows are wise enough to know that with 8 cars still running and 3 moving on, you're not going to pass through with no driveshaft. This is also that kind of show where 1 hit against the wall can ruin your car, so they break it right away.

I know this guy who derbies against us, he will take a fresh car to a derby make a hit and stop his car and the reason he does it, is our rules allow us to put on so many repair plates to the frame if the car is pre run. the frame doesnt have to be bent it just has to be pre run, so a fresh car with 1 or 2 hits in the rear throws on 4 per side of each side and runs it again at a show with fresh cars now you've got the upper hand.

Why not just take it out back and run into another derby car or tree then?
