I have the chance to get a good deal on a 81 Fairmont 4 door sedan with the 200 6 cyl, don't know a lot about the platform though. Looking to build a hard rwd compact for Bash4Cash 18. Any opinions on that car for Bash rules, and opinions comparing it to a Pinto wagon or sedan that I can also get? Just did my 83 with 200 motor. Ranger 7.5" axle is the same, you can find a 7.5" Ranger rear end with 4.11s or 3.73s pretty easy, so ditch that 2.73 ring and pinion...I'm running Ranger 3.73 ring & pinion lincoln locked and two square-body Ranger left axle shafts & drums so i can use Ranger 14x6 5x4.5 wheels with 25-8.50-14 Galaxy skids tubed. Front factory wheels get 8-14.5 lowboy trailer tires tubed with vs protectors. Delete the gigantic exhaust manifold and dual converters. The early mustang/falcon log manifold bolts right on you have to either replace the three long studs or else i ground down some of the crappy capped lug nuts as spacers and worked fine. I got to find a way to do pictures. Yes please post pictures love, would love to see this build. Tapatalk works great

Thanks for the input. Now I have a Gremlin amd a Pacer in the available list....if I had a hot dog in one hand and a hamburger in the other I'd die of starvation trying to decide which to eat first lmao. Obviously the Pacer is the best but the Fairmont is complete running and the Pacer is the most expensive

Found a Fairmont for a really good deal haven't been to look at just wondering if the 2.3 will go in there with a rear sump pan The only fords that used a front sump pan were the pinto, stang II and their merc/lincoln counterparts. Anything else gets a rear sump. that's what I was wondering trying to stay away from front sump pans cause I would have to change my cradle

Personal preference on how to do the rear. Have yet to run all-thread but seems it will be pretty tough. Don't plan on doing the usual notch either but am trying something new. Will post more pics when I get there. did you ever get before and after pics of this car?

Hi all. Not new too derbies but all i ever ran before is fwd compacts and mild build rules for county fair which are basically disposable cars. They have a youth class which is 12-16 and parent rides in passenger seat. Rules for youth require midsize. I picked up a 1983 Ford Fairmont sedan which is a solid car no real rust. 90K miles with 200 six motor, 7.5" rear and c4. Rules for youth are no frame welding no tucking or wedging, and factory bumpers. I'm wanting to build it to hopefully last multiple years and be strong without over building it. Plan so far is gut it to basics, relocate the duraspark, i picked up a 3.73 diff & pinion from a ranger and going to weld it as a locker. Run 23 850 14 marathoner r4 skidders on rear and stuffed 7-14.5 8ply on front. Where to dimple or notch so it wont plow? Strengthen the front legally? Are the aluminum bumpers good enough or do I just put on steel? Planning on a floor shifter. What do you guys use? Any advice appreciated. Thanks. My son will be twelve in time for derby and is looking forward to helping and driving. any pics of this
