I've got a '72 400 with points, I also have a duraspark distributor and box from an '78 400. I should be able to drop the dizzy and wire in the box into the '72 and be done, right?

I would never use duraspark over points, points are more reliable and less stress, throw a new set of points and condenser and gap new plugs to .35 and go

Ok I'm going to stick with points, but I have a dumb question. How do you wire it for push button and switch? From what I could find it would be the same as HEI? And through the solenoid of course.
Also, does anyone know if the 400 upper motor mounts will fit right into a Vic that had a 4.6? They look identical but haven't been able to measure yet

My only tip for these boat anchors is to replace the oil pump if the engine has over 120,000 miles on it. I'm a Ford fan and always have been but 351m/400 were the shit engines. They're the exact same except stroke, I've always heard them referred to as mid-blocks because they're a small block with big block pistons and stroke. I tore a 400 apart out of the truck in my profile pic and it had 351 stamped into the pistons and the connecting rods are too long to be considered a small block stroke so it's 50/50 on what they really are, nobody is wrong for calling them a big block or a small block considering they're a breed of their own haha

Awesome thank you for the answer putting a 460 in now the 351m started knocking I know small blocks are better but this was free with a C6 behind it from a buddy. I tried building the 351m but just didn't have it rite lol

Anyone run a 400 in a 80s car? I'm having trouble getting it mounted? Out of curiosity what is the problem, I've never done it in a car. In the trucks, they use different pedestals off the crossmember for the small block vs big block.

never measured one,,, its the same as a 2 barrel holley carb,,, how's that 351 m doing,,?... we just ran our 400M,,, never stalled during the derby,,, won the derby too,,, starter button broke on the way back to the pits,, ..................lenny Its going good Lenny! Going to put a double roller timing chain in her this weekend, got the 4 into 1 headers on and the HEI distributer on and it sounds great so far. Still have to rebuild the carb too. But I gotta figure my brake master cylinder situation out first. Lol
