I rarely get up here and ask for help but right now I am stumped. I have a 86 box Vic that I am trying to build. Derby is next Sunday and after last night I am further away from being done than when I started. Ha. I bought an adapter plate to put a 72 impala steering box on. Bolted up fine. And then the problems started. Took the pitman arm off the ford box and bolted it on the Chevy box. Problem is that for the pitman arm and boxes splines to line up the steering is off. I can turn right but tithe left box maxes out when tires are pointed forward. So I pulled arm off center the box and the only way the splines line up is to have the steering able to turn one way but not the other. So then I tried to bolt the impala center link and pitman arm on but the part that bolts to the passenger side frame rail is hitting and spacing it out didn't help. So I heated it and bent it down but u really gotta abend it down for it to clear. Someone please help. I spent hours last night on this piece of crap and now I have even more work and lost a night on this.

sounds to me like you don't have the pitman arm centered on the box. I haven't tried this setup before though.

Is a 85 Lincoln steering box worth running or should I change it?

Have 97 marquis (first time messing with bubble) swapping to 80s arm, how much do I have to trim a arm by the bolts to get it to work?

So I have read This whole thread and see the same question I am about to ask, but no answers.. I used an adapter plate to put a 70s gm steering box on my 98-02, what needs to be done as far as the pitman arm goes? does it need swapped to the Ford? Any mods to do this? Do I need to Modify the GM pitman arm? Thanks!

Have 2questions dealing with A-arms on new fords.
1. I want to put old iron GM uppers on the car..will the ball joint work on the ford spindle?
2. If i replace the upper A-arm and spindle to old GM, will lower A-arm have to be replaced as well?

I just put 76 Buick uppers and spindles on a 98-02 frame. For the Uppers, you take the center bar out and it will bolt right to the mounts. I used the ford lowers and didn't have to modify the spindle at all, it sits right in place as ford and gm used the same taper ball joint. Now I know if you use box ford stuff you can gain more height VS the old iron GM, but that's what I had so I used it.

Has anyone used adjustable spring spacers On the front of a Vic? Trying to get alittle more height without changing the springs

I guess you could use those. I'd think about using a spot weld on them, to keep them there. And I've heard of folks using steel tubing, for spacers. Cut a notch in each end, and spot weld then into place. Check and make sure the spacer is the right size, before you spot weld.
