I'm gettting parts together to run a GM 3 speed this year. Do you guys suggest running a cable clutch or hydraulic? When it comes to a clutch do you go high performance or a good stock replacement? Tom

i run a hydraulic setup and i like it. i run a stock replacement clutch from autozone has a lifetime warrant on it... over 10 derbys on it and im running 550hp turning 9000 rpms no need for an expensive one.

are you guys running internal hydraulic slaves, or the external still using clutch fork? I personally run an internal one and I am skeptical about it because if I blow the seals in it I am done until I can drop the tranny out and change it out, I am considering going with a cable that way the only thing that can really fail is the cable, and you can change it in minutes. The question I have is how many cables vs hydraulic cylinders will you go through? Looking for advice also I have only run mine a couple times and never had problems just getting ideas from more guys

I have a quartermaster hydraulic throw out bearing Ive been running for a couple years, and have never had any issues. I think a rebuild kit is like $20 bucks. After reading your concerns I might throw a kit in in it before my next build. The thing I like best about it is that you only need one hydraulic line to the trans from the pedal/master to make it work. There is nothing wrong with the external hydraulic or cable setups. Its all personal preference and what you have readily available.

a cable setup with a blowproof bell. dont use a stock bell housing unless u dont mind losing a leg. just my 2 cents

Stromi, this was my first 3 speed set up and it worked flawless, I couldn't have been more confident in it, but after thinking about it, it makes me scratch my head!! Damn anything can brake but making it quick and simple to replace is key!! Just the next question I have is how many cables will a guy break compared to blowing hydraulic seals? Sure you can replace a cable easy but if it keeps taking you out of the game its not worth a darn either!! decisions decisions

I use the hydraulic throwout bearing inside as well and haven't had a big issue with seals. Had them go once, but it was at home and the bearing had about 15 runs on it. Changed out the seals 3 years ago and haven't had a issue. Rebuild kits for my Howe throwout bearing were only like $8-10. Personally ive had better luck with stock replacement clutches. My brother spent $500+ on a ram clutch, third time out it was slipping bad and was toast afterwards. I have 2 stock replacement clutches, one has 14-16 runs on it and the other only has 2

I use cable with a clutch built by a shop by St Louis, MO. Lakewood scatter proof bell. The cable is a 6-8 foot cable from a Mack Semi truck shop. Very durable. Can't comment on the hydraulic, I've never used one.

I am going to run a 3 speed this year, and I wonder if there is anything I need to worry about the spacing. dp and halo are gropp. I know there are spacer washers when you bolt a dp to a 350 or 400. do i need spacers on a 3 speed.

Youll need a longer pilot bearing. Tap your dowel pins out or get long ones. And put a tranny brace on your three or you'll snap the housing. Oh and a shatter proof housing too. Exactly what I have except mines big rock
