Building a 77 elderado. I wanna use the nose and run hard with it. I'll weld the mounts and chain the motor tight. And change the upper joints to bolts. Any other input would be great.. Gonna weld the dif and stuff but I'm wondering if anyone has ever done real tricks to these. I don't want it to bend Just going off my mopar experience but I think chains around the torsionbars/firewall crossbrace will make the torsions hold the nose down. Weld some bolts to the top of the torsion bar mounting crosspiece through the floor and big washers to help from bellying. hardnose and put some cutdown mopar bumper shocks inside the frame rails. some metal inner fenders would help some and a dp

This is my first gm. I'm gonna chain the motor and make weld some pieces in so the axles can't come out. I was looking at the front frame rails while I started hard nosing it today. I beefed up the bottom of the rad support seat hoping it keeps the rails together better. I was worried about cranking the torsion bars but now that u said that im gonna use that idea and also weld some chain under the a arms so it can't fall on its face if one lets go. I have the body off the rear of this thing looks pretty week. Luckily it has the 425 in it so it's got something good going for it at least lol. I'm gonna run a seam welded 74 impala bumper and let it eat. Any other ideas let me know I appreciate it I'll post pictures when it's done

On pg 6 there's a pic of the gears with the pan cover removed on a 71. Tight but a stick welder could do it easily. Maybe the 80's ones are similar?

well i heard of people saying that their converting caddys and there like a rock and my only concern with fwd is keeping that big block cool put a SBC in then, I use SBC and 350 Olds Desiel's. The front is stout with a bumper upgrade because of the torsion bars and semi double frame. make it rwd and leaf it ! Bad Ass!

Im running my first Toronado in the spring and have a few questions, our rules allow front bumpers max height of 30" at stock with my 27" tires on it im at like 20", id like to be at 26", so my question is how big of tire can i get on this and still be able to stear, and how much height do you gain from the torsion bars? Thanks in advance

I've got a 73 eldorado stripped out at the moment, and can't decide which way to go. Would you guys leave it fwd and run the 500 caddy or convert it to rwd? I kind of want to try the fwd, but don't want to sink a bunch of work into it to have it fall apart the first time I go out. This is an unheard of car in the derby world in my area, so I really haven't seen one run or even talk to anybody with any ideas. The frame looks massive up front so it looks like a good contender

Really depends on your rules and build abilities.

I have run an '80 and a '72, I think the '73 is better than both those, All Caddy front bumpers suck. if your rules allow get the the best bumper you can off the bumper list (here search for bumpers) welded up and hard nosed to the frame do everything you can to keep that 500 cool (472's handle heat better) use the rear as defence and the front as offence. Use the rear first a bit and then just go forward, backing up in these once stuff starts bending is like trying to push a string in a strait line. I placed top three in both heats and mains of the two I ran. I am building a '75 ElDawg as we speak and despite everything above I am going rear drive, just cause I have not converted one yet. Don't know how it will turn out. Anyway Good Luck !

The derby I have in mind is a limited weld. A arms forward is about all the welding I can do. And I can't hard nose it... but I can leaf the rear end so that will help a little bit. I think I'm going to try fwd with the 500 and see what happens.
