Right now I'm thinking edlebrock intake, slightly bigger cam, eq heads, hei dist, la style timing cover and that's about it. I'm going to use my first magnum for a test motor, then go bigger for my 2nd one. They make great power for sure. Id probably stick at that engine build personally, atleast top end wise. I was thinking if I end up liking this engine, maybe doing a stroker. But we'll see... I'm also using headers with tall collectors. Was told by a local engine builder that'll help with torque. Test car will probably be either a Dippy or a metric caddy.

I have a couple of questions regarding a 360 I'm working on. Stockist build with stock Holley 2 barrel. Is it worth going to a slightly bigger cam? Suggestions on cam? Looking to make a little more power but also reliable. Also I was thinking 4.56 gears. I also usually run 14 in tires most of the time. Most of my tracks are narrow but kinda long as well. Gears first or cam?

Its hard to say what a long track is from your post, but 4.56 are a gear I really like and think its a safe gear for most tracks.

What's fair market value on a running magnum? I found one or a guy who has one found me.....thinking this may be my "last hoorah" engine. I'm not opposed to scattering it on the first run so I don't want to pour endless amounts of money in it. It has 180,xxx miles on it but doesn't smoke and runs good. Any major defects with these in comparison to the old stuff, bottom ends on those seemed almost bulletproof.

Hey guys . I'm in the process of tearing down a 1979 318 LA motor. I pulled the heads on it. That # on the heads are 4027693. What curious what exactly kinda heads these are and are they any good?.I'm not wanting to build a high rpm motor but a motor with good torque. What can I do. First time building a Mopar which I love my mopars. Any help would be great!

Any major defects with these in comparison to the old stuff, bottom ends on those seemed almost bulletproof. Paid $50 for the one I have, and all they need to run is an intake (166 free shipping from eBay) and a points or electronic dizzy. It also depends if it's a 318 or 360. 360 magnums are way over priced and hyped over a 318 magnum. I can get 318s all day for about free.50-300, 360s are usually 500-1000. 318 is still internally balanced, 360s are still externally balanced, but the balance is different than an LA. Only flaw I know of is when you start bumping up compression, they crack the heads. Most are cracked, but it's usually not enough to make a difference, they're not as bad as the Vortec 350s I ordered my assault intake manifold today, and I'm confused on a couple things.... 1) what thermostat housing and thermostat are you guys running? This one is huge. 2) how are you getting the LA plugs in the bolt holes? 11r vise grips? 3) did anyone else cut the alternator/ac bracket in half to keep the serpentine belt?

I'd leave the bottom end of the engine alone unless it has a problem. Just a valve seat job, timing chain, and a good fuel and spark system is all a 318 needs. My philosophy is to spend money on 4.56 gears for an 8-/34 axle rather than engine mods.

Hey thanks. I'm planning on leaving it stock now but just get it freshened up. It has the stock cam and lifters in it . thought about a replacement cam. Just not sure what . it's going to machine shop to get freshened up and cleaned. But going to leave it stock. If possible. And ur number is correct on the heads. Ill diffently look into 4.56 gears. It will be going in a 71 Newport. With 8 3/4 rearend

If im replacing cam I like comp (doesnt really matter if your brand loyal or not, just match specs) 318 Comp 262, 360 Comp 268. Gears will wake a motor up better then throwing money at motor. 4.56 is a safe all around gear.

Anybody do this already and have any tips 318-no just use an old flex plate and a neutral TC 360- neutral balanced flex plate and balanced TC or the other way around. And they're balanced differently than an LA.
