Weather or not anybody has built anything similar. 408 stroker magnum for Derby, The whole e85 route. Magnum im not sure, 408s ive seen, doesnt matter the brand of motor when it comes to E85. Ive never had a problem with gas so ive never touched Alcohol or E85, I know theres benefits and tradeoffs but gas has worked for me. Magnum if your building one I dont trust stock heads. Think you said EQ which are good heads, they put attention and material into the bad areas of stock magnum heads. Dont see why the combination wouldnt work, but im not huge into that much work into a derby motor so theres that. |

I'm just looking to play in the bigger national Derbys. I can't do that with a stock setup. Looking for info as to things to be considered as I'm building the motor myself and just sending out machine work.

Sbm 360. Broke the motor mounts on the block. Is there anything I can do besides chain the motor in?

There are lots of bolts on the front of the engine, there is the midpoint bolt where the trans braces go, you can work out ways to use head bolts, exhaust flange bolts, stuff like that |

Not sure if it works in every application, I know there are the pictures and actually the thread on here where they fabbed a piece that went from the head bolts down to the oil pan bolts.

On a 5.9 magnum could I use a older style flex plate and 727 tranny

On a 5.9 magnum could I use a older style flex plate and 727 tranny 2 options with 5.9 Magnum, flex plate that came off the motor and a neutral torque converter of a non weighted flex plate and a special built converter for a magnum. |

what is everyone running their timing set at?
My set up is a 87 la roller block with a set of magnum heads and magnum 360 cam. Procomp air gap intake with a holley 500 cfm carb. And running HEI distributor.
Right now im set at around 11 degrees advance. Just wondering what other people are running and how it runs both cold/hot?

Got a question on a 360 Mopar.....last year I pulled this motor out of a car the day before the show so it and I have a very much love hate relationship. Anyway: I built this motor a couple years ago, only has 3 runs on if, never been what I would consider really hot. It has never run as good as my other, "same build 360" which I know you'll never have more than one old reliable. But....last year it wouldn't run right, seemed to have a miss. Ended up changing everything on the top end, intake, distributor, carb, plugs and wires and to no avail it still ran like crap, missing on what seemed like 5 and 7. I pulled the motor apart today finally after I assumed the lobes on the cam had went flat since 2 cylinders seemed to be dead. I found a bent pushrod on #7 but nothing on 5. I ran a straight edge across the tops of the valves with springs still installed as the heads were fresh when installed and the valve on 7 is about a 1/4" lower than all other cylinders. Any ideas on cause? I know it's cause for concern but I have no idea on what happened, unless the seat is coming out or possibly the valve is stuck in there but with new guides I wouldn't think that was the issue. I'll investigate more when I get time but was curious if anyone had some obvious ideas that I may be missing.
Also, the lobes on the cam didn't seem to show much wear and cam bearings seemed standard for use.

So, without any pressure on the rockers, the valve is a quarter inch lower than the rest? Correct valve? Correct spring?

I give the assumption that everything as far as head assembly is correct. Local machine shop......in business for quite some time and has done past work for me with no issues did this set of heads too. |

Floated the valves, not the correct Springs, clearances not correct. Best bet it to lay some putty in the piston and check your clearances |
