Shewwww! Sounds like an engine from a modified! Any idea what your cylinder heads flow? I think those older I-037’s were 250- 260ish .... got a nice set stashed in the shop too The guy I got them from had numbers from the shop that did the work, I didn't really care that much about it. Just an old derby motor lol. I had it all machined to my specs, and clearanced how I wanted it. It may seem like a standard dirt track build, but the tolerances, end gaps, bearings and other things done will allow it to run longer when hot compared to a basic build.

I was actually going to take the heads off and probably sell them, and start over with a newer and better casting design.

Looks good, and sounds good, only things that matter 😂😉 we do it for the cool guy points I've also learned some things from one of the guys widely considered to be a top derby engine builder. About getting them to run while hot. So no, it doesn't look pretty or just sound good, I'd have just bought a Baldwin in that case

Just having some fun, way more that goes into it than what I said earlier All good. I'll probably end up melting it down anyways. Luckily the msd chip will keep me from getting carried away. The long stroke 350 doesn't like rpm like everyone tries to feed them. I'll turn this one 6800 max.. Now when I had the 377. It would turn 7800 all night.

But that was also with 1050 cfm carb and a .710 lift cam Nothing this radical for me to melt down and destroy in a derby car. I was thinking just a newer dart head, iron eagles or whatever. Ones I have are ancient lol

According to the build sheet we have a sbc 421 that should like some high rpms, it will be our first truly built good engine

My 421 made 778h.p at the flywheel, and 692 ft lb torque. I didn't have the kit on it at the dyno, but had a 2 stage 300 hit of N20 in it. Peak numbers came around 7200 rpm.
That went mid 9s, 150 mph in an all steel street driven 71 Chevelle with full exhaust and interior.

Ours is rated for around 7800 rpm, we are unsure if exact horse power

Will probably sound cool coming across the track.... I’ve got a 406 with domes on the stand right now.... with a large solid roller in it.... but I’ve won a hell of a lot more money with mild built engines

Also if you don’t have the car to win it’s a hell of lot easier to get mad dog if your car sounds good along with making good hits and putting on a show.

The increase in the number of people who have found a way out of (aka excuse for not) winning by saying "it sounds cool" generally alarms me, but there is no changing it.
"I lost in the first round, but when the tires went up in smoke because we were too dumb to figure out how to set up a clutch I was still cool. I should do that all season long." said John Force NEVER.
"We didn't win the Daytona 500 because my guys put in a 7800 rpm chip and I lost by 20 laps, but it sounded cool bouncing off the limiter for 5000 miles", said Jimmie Johnson NEVER.
"I don't have the skill to actually build and drive a car to the win at a derby, so I'll do something like melt down a lopey, loud engine in one minute to be cool" SHOULD be said by many derby people.
