haha funny story! back in the day when my dad used to run cars he was the first guy to run his headers out of his hood, they actually DQ'd him at all the events he ran that year! then he was fire chief at the time and expressed that it was a safety feature having them ran upwards out the hood and they then allowed it the following year! now you don't see a car with out them!!

guys around here would flip over under car headers so they would point up... but they also pointed towards the front as well! it didn't take too long after people got their hair singed to outlaw those!

does the water bypass hoses really help that much with cooling.

if done correctly they help yes. I usually use them... the last engine pic I posted doesn't have them... trying something new on that one

Wish I had the after pic of that motor. Ran Princeton after like 6" of rain in one afternoon. So much mud you couldnt even tell if it had a carb on it lol.
I never run a motor without front to rear cooling lines. I also run my coolant lines to the heads as well usually. Didn't on that motor
