Whats everyone's thoughts about running a mildly built small block in a caddy with 4:10 gears? I have always ran My 472's but with our rules I can build a "transmission cross member" if I do a motor swap . The tracks out here are big and fast and i like to keep my foot in it so i want to make sure the car isn't under powered.

If your used to big block torque you will need to make up for that with lower than normal gear ratio. JMO But why don't you just run the same Trans crossmember with the big block setup as you would with the small block?

Tank- due to the unique frame design there are structural advantages to running a full cross member as apposed to the "floating" factory type.

Well 4:10's are what I got to work with. So even in a large fast arena that is still not enough?

I used the calculator on the ranger station website that Stormie pointed out and came up with a final ratio of 4:34 using 14.5" mobile home tires that have been recapped with R-1 lugs. The small block is looking better and better.

I saw one run this year that had hump plates (it was built to smash it rules). It was very stout in the back, until he took a bad back corner shot. Then it kinked the hump plate and started to go down. It was probably just a bad shot that did it though.

Our rules wont allow us to swap cross members if the car still has its stock engine/transmission. Sorry for any confusion.

Im gunna humplate n dimple n pray it roles
