That’s top view, can’t really show downbars, you can either pad the middle bar or drop it down to hip level with and armrest or something

And yes you can weld to sheet metal, I’m not sure how else you’d hold it in besides pressure it in I guess

That’s a whole lot of work. I’d rather just plate the outsides of the doors

If a car is trying to full track me heading for wheel I will pull I front of them to hit the door so I don't want it to bend

Take a hard hit in the door and bend the cage Run thicker cage bars (square or round) and gusset everywhere you can. Not trying to insult but a good cage shouldn’t bend, the car yes but not the cage.

Why would you want the cage to bend, plays a big part in how the car holds up and in safety in general. We usually run a middle bar for the shifter and switches plus on our weld cars, when the cradle hits the dash bar, the middle bar doesn’t allow the dash bar to bend. Middle bar helps to keep the gtp in place too. If you pad it or lower it a little it works good, all personal preference tho.

1/4 plate plus a cage will pretty much hardly notice what’s shot, seen a lot of straight doors after taking a hard hit. Especially if the down bar is there, nothing should move.

If you build the cage inside the door you can actually see sheet metal form around the cage as it starts to bend, and structurally once you put a cage inside the doors and see how much it helps you’ll never do it any other her way. The more you tie together the tighter things get.

I could definitely see the benefits but it’s a lot of work to stick a 60 inch piece of 6 inch rectangle tube through a couple doors.
