Deeper gears are harder on axels. The more advantage you give to the driveline, the more stress you put on the axel.

does any body pull the axles out when welding the rear diff up ? A couple of years ago I did my last derby car and broke a axle 15 min into the heat and I was wondering if the axle lost its temper from welding it

I've done them both ways, and have had good/bad luck with them. But if I had to give a tip, I'd say pull them.

I leave them in and never had a problem. The only time the axles are pulled if it is a 9"

Gearing for 70 caddy My engine is a 93 350 basically stock. Converted to carb, l am building a ford 9" what would you think would be a good gearing for it? Is there a way to have too much gear? My friend says 4.56 l'm wondering if that's enough. The track I'm going run it at is maybe 75 feet long max 100. I'll be run 235/75/ 15 tires Opinions. Thanks

What for gear oil do you guys put in after you weld your gears? Couple people told me just to throw the old stuff back in but I have some 80w-90. Would that suffice?

Okay i have an 8.5 bia 10 bolt and wondering what gear to go with? I have a pretty well built 350 and run 29in. tires. Would 4.56's be good to go with? Usually wet small tracks.

I run 29 inch tires with 3.73's and I love them. I also run a rear end with 3.08's but I run smaller tires to help gear it down some.
