Just so you guys know and yawl might already know, you can balance your drive shaft by installing a grease fitting into the drive shaft tube and pumping a tube of grease into it. It will balance the shaft and it works pretty good. Done it on sliders also.

I draw a line on the shaft, cut out what I need to, then I make an internal sleeve on my exhaust bender and weld it together. When I weld it together I line up the line I drew on the shaft and lay the shaft in a piece of angle iron to hold it straight while I weld.

I have several friends who section shafts together using the tape and overlap method with sucess. Its all personal preference. Im surprised this thread resurfaced. I thought it died a year ago.

had a stock drive shaft in this one and not a CV on the front of it. Broke the knuckle on the last hit up front throttle was stuck wide open and was slam shifting for 1-2...I just cut the yolk side right at the weld with a cutting wheel and there is a 1 inch or so lip off of the yolk that slides into the shaft. then I cut the shaft where I want it usually about 2-3 finger widths between end of tail shaft and slide on yolk. Then slide the yolk back into the shaft and weld it back up. Helps keep it straight...
