I know youre on a budget, and their is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but you have to think of future use too.
Throwing money into that 307 is basically the same thing as throwing money in the trash.
You will be money ahead if you buy a good cheap SBC to start with.
One other thing, I was thinking some of those metric trans had both sets of pattern holes? Chevy and BOP? Might wanna check it out. I'm not saying theyre an awesome trans, but if you can use it and save yourself a couple bucks...

or just use what ya got for your first derby and have some fun. tweak problem areas with your car and buy a new car next year that already has a sbc in it (there are hundreds of thousands out there) just keep that on your list for "musts" for the next car a set of headers for a 267 sbc will fit a 262, 265, 283, 302, 305, 327, 350, 400. there is actually even a 307ci sbc (pretty few and far between). if you find just one of these motors you can bolt all your previous years parts on it. just buy a motor with a car attached to it and run that next time.

Again I know my trans isnt great but like you said if I can save a few bucks by not buying one then I am all for it. What about motor mounts? I assume I am going to have to mess with them a bit?

I'm not super familiar with the 200R's, so you would have to take a look at it to be sure.
As far as motor mounts go, just unbolt the Olds lowers off the frame, and bolt or weld in Chevy lowers. Pretty darn easy.

What would suggest being the best way to get rid of motor and make most money? I know Meeker will give me 75 for motor and trans for core, should I try selling it complete on craigslist?

You can try CL, but honestly they aren't a real sought after motor.

You can try CL, but honestly they aren't a real sought after motor. Got the olds sold and going to go buy a sbc in two days. Also a friend of mine had a th350 sitting around that I am going to bolt on and see how she works. If not I will run the 200-4r. they can be bolted right up to a sbc no problem, I checked. My next question is motor mounts, I believe I can weld them. but how do i determine where to weld them as I assume my olds mounts wont work.

just match up the bolt holes in the engine crossmember with a set of sbc lowers and bolt them or weld them in place, small block should then just drop in, move trans crossmember to fit.

So after reading this thread, im still debating on changing out the distributor and carb on my 307 or will it be just fine to run them? Its just a stock car and I already own 5 sbc 305-400, but its already in the car running and driving so i said to hell with it haha.

Ok everyone, i changed the carb out on my 307 for an edelbrock 1407 with a spacer, and im having problems and am stumped what is wrong. So my problem is when i mash the gas it just falls on its face and dies completely if i keep on the throttle but if i left off or flutter the gas it stays running. To get any power out of it, i have to either slowing open it up or flutter it till its open. Im completely lost on what i did wrong, any help is appreciated as the derby is next month

Ok ive adjusted the floats to edelbrocks specifications. Still having the same problem, but now it dies completely and cant even get it to open up with out it cutting out, new carb gaskets, no vacuum leaks from what i can tell, timing is on. Motor ran like a raped ape till i took the quadrajunk off now it acts like it doesn't like the edelbrock that well. What may be the problem......maybe air fuel ratio off, should i run an electric pump? Im not sure what is the problem
