That's the local watering hole where the girls have beer guts but they are more than eager to do things that most girls wont.

BELLY BARS= Steel tubes from trans cross member to either the front feet or to the engine cradle depending on the the car being built.

Didn't see "Dog Legs" on the list. Commonly used term for wagons that means different things depending on area. Could use some definite wording.

I just read something about a 5 foot class and/or 5 foot cars? Can someone elaborate, and how did they come up with the name?

Can someone elaborate, and how did they come up with the name? very popular around my area. the name is based on all the inspection can be done five feet from the car and safety is the only thing they look for. lots of solid, plated cars. mainly compacts but I've seen a few big car shows to. its kind of funny to look at the solid skinned mustang's they look like they were built out of Lego blocks

5 Foot Class can also mean you're allowed 60" of plate per frame rail or in total on any car.

5 Foot Class can also mean you're allowed 60" of plate per frame rail or in total on any car. I always thought it meant it had to look like a car from 5 feet away. Learn something everyday I guess Sent from my XT907 using proboards

Learn something everyday I guess Sent from my XT907 using proboards Depends on the region or even the promotor. I have seen 1 in New York where 1 inspector did a safety check and looked the cars over up close. The rest of the officials were behind a line 5 feet away and not allowed closer. Cars had to appear legal at 5 feet.

When I originally posted the definition of small block I didn't realize that displacement wasn't the final factor. Allpar has discussion/article on the small block A engines of the late 50s. www.allpar.com/mopar/a-engines.html318+360 www.allpar.com/mopar/318.htmlThe 383, 413, 426 and 440 were all Mopar big blocks. Chevy Small blocks - 262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, plus 400 Big Block - 366, 396, 402, 427, and the 454. Fords - 427 and 460s are big blocks but I don't know the others. Help. For Fords Common Small Blocks for derby: 302, 351W (Windsor), 351C (Cleveland) Big Blocks: 351M (Modified), 390, 400, 427, 428, 429, 460. Obviously there are lots of other ones out there, don't know them all, but these are the more common ones you may see in derbies. Also, thanks to the OP, this is a very good thread
