Half-shafts on a fwd are like floating axles in the sense they don't support weight of the vehicle. They would not be considered a floating axle based on where the term "floating" comes from. In a full floating axle, the axle "floats" inside the assembly that carries the vehicle's weight.

There technically is weight on the axle stub, what do you think holds the hub bearing from blowing apart? A true full floater you can pull an axle with the weight of the vehicle on the the wheel assembly because the axle does not put any preload on the bearing.

In either case, I can remove the axle and both will roll without an axle, right ? Sounds like a floater to me.

Can you remove the axle stub with the weight of the vehicle on the wheel assembly? that is the biggest question. Either way, comparing a cv shaft to a full floater is nonsense. I know which one I would take 100% of the time.

I know which one I would take 100% of the time. so because you prefer one over the other, it doesn't make them even somewhat similar ? And yes on some vehicles that use cv's, it is very possible to remove the cv shafts with the tires still on the ground.
