Weren't broken Don't worry Russ and Tim. You can't please everyone. All the compact guys complain about not getting paid enough. You bump the pay up to the best compact prize that I have ever seen and they still complain. Remember compact guys. The most bone stock compact (GEO) got 2nd this year with the only weld being on the doors. If a pinto/ gremlin can't take that out you have more problems than needing better build rules lol First off it wasn't a Geo, I believe it was a Camry and he got lucky gimping around. I think all of us were assuming he would take himself out. ....we were wrong! won't make that mistake again. They can run their show how they want I'm just trying to ask questions and figure out if I want to run Smash It shows next year. I have a lot of respect for them guys but at the same time walked away with a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth after this year.

I don't think anyone would be pleased if they got screamed at by one of the promoters for getting pushed out of the end of the track that they failed to have closed.

I agree, they are great promoters. They put up some big bucks for the compacts for next year which is awesome. I have no doubt they are probably great guys. The problem is, they are great promoters for fullsize, not for compacts. Which is the same problem we have most of the time with any other promoter. Its not like they haven't put any effort into it, like I said, they did put up the cash. Its the fact that with them and every other show we build to the same rules as fullsize but they are completely different animals. Also those of us that like to run RWD are just fed up with all these Wbodies. Its just the same as old iron/80's+ they become popular then you let them get away with the world and they don't bend.
My biggest beef is the lack of inspections though. which at Bash you can't blame the inspectors to an extent. after looking it 200 fullsize and some of them 2,3,4+ times they have no interest in looking at a compact and weren't even sure what the rules were for compacts. I was one of the first inspected saturday and two guys did a walk around my car peeked under the hood for a second peeked under the trunk and put a stick on my car. I know some guys admitted to having "shocks" shoved at least halfway down their frame. W's had their cradles welded to the frame. According to the rules we were suppose to have stock rear bumpers, a lot of them were nothing but flat and square stock. At the show I ran this fall, compacts literally just drove up and got a stick.
Now this isn't just a problem with smash it, it is anywhere you go, but I figured I could expect more out of them.

The problem with compacts is that they are typically considered as filler for most shows and demand very little respect. However with the cost of old cars and finding entry level positions for rookies in the sport, the compacts will continue to become even more popular. Its a trend that will take time. Keep the compact car counts up and drive hard. The rest will work itself out in time. I like compacts myself. I have two NC State Compact Championship trophies to prove it. However I do not expect that to mean anything comparatively to old iron at this present time. It will mean more in the future as the sport changes and evolves. Don't be an entitled and whiny compact driver, that does not help advance the compact class. JMO

If I came off as entitled and whiny, sorry. That wasn't my intention, I get annoyed myself when compact guys get whiny. I don't expect the same respect or payout as fullsize. I understand that the vendors like derbyparts.com, derbytees, ect aren't writing the big checks to sponsor because of the compacts. I just want to not get disrespected and have a decent inspection so it's a level playing field.

Another suggestion.. If compacts are going to get inspected on Saturday, they need to get impounded too. The cars that got inspected Saturday got a stick and were told to take them anywhere but the pits. What is keeping the local guys from taking them back home and burning rods/wire all night?

It was proven at the bash this year. Mad props to that guy from nc. Maybe one year they can have a fwd only heat and rwd only heat. Me personally I'd rather get my car junked by a bunch of bad ass rwd cars than a fwd car that was a daily driver until two days before the derby JMO lol but on the fall show I drove up and got sent back to cut window bars so not everyone just got flags lol

I was referring to a county fair show they promoted this fall. To my knowledge there wasn't a single compact that had to cut anything out of roughly 20 cars. The W body that won had 1/8th inch diamond plate for door skins and 1 1/2in allthread for rear struts that went up through the floor and trunk lid. He battled for probably 10 minutes against two very well built pacers and his car looked the same as when he drove on the track.
