Would a 351 Windsor be a good derby motor my uncle says it won't hang with them Chevys but I think it will take the same abuse It definitely will be a good derby motor. I have used a stock 351W that has been used on and off over the last 10 years and just won't die. It may not have as much power as it once did but it can run hot and fires back up.

I wish Ford could make up their mind with which motor they want. Three variations of the 351? Like 5 different platforms of engines? Damn who can keep it all straight? I can and do. They are really no different than a chevy. Heads swap on a lot of the 351 platforms. A 351W and 302 heads will swap, bell housings swap, 302 intake can be used with the spacer they make. 351M and 351C = the 351C heads bolt right on a 302, 351W, 351M, and 400. The 351C bell housing is same as 302 and 351W. The 351C intake will bolt on 351W, 351M, and 400 with proper spacer. The 302, 351W, 351C, 351M, and 400 are all good derby engines and will outlive and gm POS! I have ran all these engines over the years and have trophies with all these power trains in the car. www.pricemotorsport.com/html/body_intake_adapters.html

Whatever you do get an hei distributor. Easier and it makes a difference. I've also heard the fords take heat much better than any Chevy

I ran the factory ford stuff for years and got tired of the wires and went to HEI. No trouble at all with it. As long as you have any water at all in your radiator the ford will stay cool no matter how hard you are running it. A 350 only wishes it could do that.

Shear numbers is always your excuse.
But I must say, if Ford motors are so superb, then wouldn't the greater population be running them?

No cause a die hard chevy guy will never try a ford engine. Every ford guy has rode in a chevy and knows they wont ever run one. Ford win a lot around here, if they didnt win they were in top spots.

I know for a fact a lot more guys would run ford if you could go out and buy a dp and tranny protector. im the only one in my area who runs a ford 351w and I love it Ive even had die hard chevy guys come tell me how good of running motor it is. the only thing I lack is car strength with out a dp. but either way it just comes down to if you have a motor that will stay running for you

I run both. Both sbf's have there advantages and disadvantages! The 351w whoops the 302 when it comes down to raw torque which I believe is key in a derby engine but the 302 seems to be a cooler running engine which make it more reliable. This is just my opinion, I don't have any scientific facts to prove this just good old life experience.
