351w is not a 351m or 400m more or less a 302 with longer stroke.I run a 351w and I'm very happy with it btw.

I like the 351W. It is plenty good enough to hang with them in a derby. It's one of the three 351's put out by ford and probably the most common one of them. I'm not sure how they do when they get hot or low on water.

I wish Ford could make up their mind with which motor they want.
Three variations of the 351?
Like 5 different platforms of engines? Damn who can keep it all straight?

That's why Chevy's are so much easier. Dang Fords have so dang many blocks and engines it takes a degree in "Ford Engineering" to figure out what interchanges. And I was thinking the Cleveland, Windsor, and Modify on the three 351's. I'm sure there are more as I am not up on all my Ford products. Lol I'm running a 302 with a mild cam which has turned out to be a pretty impressive derby engine....of course I have to run 4.11's to get it to feel like it has some guts in the 78 Grand Marquis I ran in the last derby. Before chevy guys start beating on your chest saying ford keep changing and chevy stayed the same. Just off top of my head lets take the small block chevy for example. 262 265 267 283 302 307 327 350 400. There's 9 examples I can think of the same "family" of engine and you complane about 3 types of "351" and you can't tell me every single part from a 262 will fit in a 400 chevy Bet way to get bang for your buck with 302 and 351w is get it to breath. www.we-crash.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ford&action=display&thread=29150Do some reading there's some good info and people to help

Barclay Wilt I don't have a degree for ford. and a 78 marquis is a heavy car or the motor not tuned... and u want to explain the chevy vs olds 350 to me. common chevy the same thing.only good thing about a chevy is the fact that trannies interchange better. But to me that don't make chevy as good as everyone makes them out to be.My 351w runs like a champ in downpours while all the sbc around me are skipping like a bastard. That's all I have to say.for now...

Heres a good read but keep in mind that there is a matter of alot of opinions. www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/sbc-vs-sbf-windsor-design-comparison-pros-cons-of-each.473312/I'd say building a good derby motor has alot to do with how well u know the engine family... and your budget. Due to interchangeability chevys are cheaper and not necessarily better. Are china goods better because there cheaper than american? it's like comparing a powermaster starter to an autozone starter. But then again since it interchanges more they don't need to make 10 different starters. I also like the ford starter design no shims required... bolt on and go.It's all how you look at it and again whos the one under the hood.Alot of chevy is monkey see monkey do.Cuz this guy has a chevy and all this chevy vs ford vs dodge shit.

No it's a stock class so it has a pretty stock 302 which I have a two barrel on. And the Marquis is around 4000 pounds I would guess. But that little engine is my favorite one I've ran. Matter of fact, since we have to run Ford in a ford, Chevy in a Chevy....., I'm looking to build a Ford car again next year because I like this 302.
