I had to put it in chevy terms so everybody else could understand what i was trying to say! There are other ways of holding the front down was doing it before it became cool. Your going the wrong way with the engine chevy lovers 4 to 8"s makes a big difference in one way.

If you space the torque converter you also need to space the rear of the crank. TCI sells kits that do both. Also If you run a thick enough midplate you also need to space the flexplate away from the crank which then the clearance between the starte and flexplate engagement depth become an issue. A 1/2" midplate would be extreme. I built a 3/8 midplate based trans brace and had went through these headaches.

You do not need to space the flywheel with a 1/2 midplate on a automatic trans Now when dealing with a 3-speedo have no idea what you need to do cuz ive never messed with one

3/8"-7/16" transfer punch, what ever fits in the hole of the trans snug but not tight. Just remember that you dont wanna hit transfer punches hard or you'll round the nose on them. Just give them a tap (with a small hammer) to make a mark then use an actual center punch to make the dent. Its also a good Idea to punch one or two holes, go drill, bolt it back on, then punch the other holes. You'll be slightly upset if the plate moves when marking them all at once.

How big of a piece of steel do you need to make the mid plate/ dist. Protector? I was thinking 2'x3' piece to get just to be safe?

Neighbor has a couple of pieces he's selling me 2'x'4 for scrap price fairly clean as well. I think the piece should be at least tall enough lol.

Make sure you add longer dowel pins to your block that line up the transmission. If not your eng/trans may not properly line up and may cause you issues later on.
I made my own trans brace using punishers brace that bolts to the bell housing bolts. So you can still bolt your trans to motor even if the mounting ears are broken off. Also ties the trans pan to everything also

Someone stole the guy's steel. He knew exactly where he put it and it's not there now. How much shipped to 61431 or 61606? I could possibly pick it up being that you're in IL.
