If you had to choose between the two cars which would you take. Cars have the same amount of rust.

chevy is better from the factory. The buick is the handsdown better car with chevy bumpers.

The Chevy has the better front end and the Buick has the better rear end but putting the Chevy bumper on the Buick don't help it's to hard for the front and will let it bend in the horns 2 quick the Buick bumper upside down would be the best it will flatten out a little and take some of the abuse the best option would be to clip the Buick with the Chevy from the feet forward dog house and all if your rules allow this and now your a force to be reckoned with

If you want something simple, and effective, take the Chevy.
The Buick radiator supports are not as heavy, but you should have lower frame braces and upper braces in the engine compartment that the chevy won't have. This car will be long and heavy. If the truck floor or inner quarters are badly rusted on the back of this car, you won't have any more strength than the chevy unless everything is properly fixed and tied together. You will have to be thoughtful on how to do the trunk to keep it out of your vision or off the ground.
Are these cars sedans or 4dr hardtops? A rusty hardtop will be a banana boat in short order unless properly prepared.
It comes down to experience and driving style. Are you running hard tracks or soft ones? A big car needs room to get around and you don't want it to get stuck.
Personally, I would take the Buick. I like a lot of interior room and trunk space. The front springs are heavier on a buick big block car, and just right for my motor transplants with a three inch rear offset.

That buick will not have plastic inner fenders, that would be the olds cars. They will be metal. It will have a 455/400 in it, so it should have a 12 bolt as well. There is a good chance it will also be a tow package car. The front ends on a buick are just as hard as a chevy even with a '74 chevy bumper on it. The big body buicks & olds have pretty good front ends, I wouldn't be afraid to take one nose to nose with a chevy and I've ran enough big body cars & a few chevy's, I'd take the big body anyday.

I would run the chevy over the buick but because of personal preference and i have only ran 1 buick sedan, the buick is a bit harder up front then the chevy, but softer in the rear. i had bad luck with the buick going down even with it being tucked and notched in the rear. JMO.

Without a brief discription of your rules and building abilities its hard to answer this question.

If you've ran enough of these "big body" cars you would know a 76 wouldnt have tow package............

I would take the Electra. All around better car. Maybe it has been bad luck but for me the Buicks have been stronger in the nose and liked the doghouse better too.

Before After I'd take the Buick anyday, towpackage or not, not that the chevy is a bad car, I've only ran one '74, but comparing the two the big bodies are a much harder car.

I would run the Chevy at a limited weld or stock type show and the Buick at a heavier type build show. I voted Buick because I like the more friendly weld shows. And didn't someone once mention that gm factory frame welds in 1974 where kinda sketchy?
