Pull the car on your trailer. Use some chain or heavy duty ratchet straps and run them over the trunk left to right near where the bottom of the rear window meets the trunk, hook them to the trailer and tighten them as much as you can. Put a floor jack underneath the pumpkin and start jacking up. Determine the height you want and tighten the chains. This is how I've been doing it for a while now and works great.

We use a skidsteer, and I'm tiny so I can crawl under the car and tighten them...

What would removing the shocks and bolting the chain in where the shocks bolt in on the hump then wrapping it around axle and bolting to itself do?

I wouldnt. Still gives ur car a lil wheel hop. Not good on axles. Leave the shocks or use adjustables

What are you talking about with wheel hop? LOL When you chain the axle around the humps it always stiffens it.

One time I raced up to tech not wearing a seatbelt and they had a big hole right at the slide stop area, hit it, bounced my head off the roof and just about knocked me out. Ya gotta know how to make an entrance!

Ya gotta know how to make an entrance! I messed my neck up at a derby bouncing my head off the roof. Some one left a tire they pulled out right in the lane we enter/ exit through the pits and it was dark. Drove up over and bounced my head off the roof. Hurt like hell.

Since u asked I was just telling u what I've seen an done. Shocks of some kind are a must. U may have it chained down but rearend still can go up.

if you chain the humps tight shocks are doing nothing for you... rearend cant really go up when the suspension is fully loaded against it. We have built many leaf cars without shocks.

This is how I set my ride height. of course rearend has to be smashed down. But i set it up on something solid to make it high enough to climb under and then chock the front wheels so it cant roll. Throw a ramp or two on the back and drive another vehicle up. Higher up/heavier vehicle the lower it will go. then get under and chain it tight.

So what does everyone do for setting height? Put Leaf Clamps tight about at the height you want then push car down and add hump chains or push it down to desired height then add leaf clamps and hump chains? Been four years since I built a car and can't for the life of me remember how I use to do it! It sucks getting older!!
