not neccessarily it all depends on what you are trying to do. hei modules can go bad from excess heat and voltage spikes

I've chosen points over HEI many times, just depends on the situation. I've never had an engine stop running due to a points dist., but I have lost a couple of hits due to breaking the larger cap on an HEI. I've also had more failures with HEI's due to internal components than I have points, but they weren't new parts either.
If rules allow me to protect the dist. then I will probably run HEI due to ease of set-up, if not then I will use the smaller cap on a points dist. with no worries.

Anyone besides me run the newer small SBC distributors that use an external coil ? Have ran mine a couple times now with no issues at all. Thinkin about throwing it in my TBTC car. I like the fact that the cap is so small and there are screws to hold it down so no problems with caps popping off

I run HEIs in everything, even Fords and Mopars. Its all just personal preference anyway.

If the engine runs good I would not mess with it. There is a couple of engines around here that have won a lot of money that still have points. Just don't forget to turn the switch off.

I was tuning up a 9N tractor and my boy wanted to help. I told him to pop the distributor cap off so we could change the points. He took the cap off and said "what the hell is that?" Kids
