Hei all the way. Just remember you get what you pay for. Soooo, your saying my $40 brand new SBC or 4.3 Hei distributers with cap and coil are junk then? Crap! Oh well, I have 3 of each that I can replace when they break.

biggest issue with the cheap dizzys are the modules, they do not last very long in derby applications partially due to the fact they have very little dialect grease between the module and base....the grease is used as a heat sink.

Oh well, If they make it 2-3 derbies I'll be happy. My luck they will break in half before they fail.

I tell my customers to put a digital msd module in them and it seems to work much better that way.

Iv been running the ford hei for a few years along with 5 or 6 of my buddies. I have switched to a high quality module and have not has a single issue, A few of my buddies have not and they are still having problems with their dizzys.

These are Assault Racing HEI distributers. IDK how long they will last but I have heard good things from a few local drivers.

I know that this is an old thread but I cant find anything else on this. I am trying to run the existing distributor in a 5.7 throttle body motor. What do I run the power wire to? The big red wire that goes to the external coil. Already got a carb on it So I only need to get power to the distributor.

On the previous page he was talking about using newer external coil distributors.

Any body have the part # for the quality module they use in the hei distributor? I replaced mine with a Delphi and still having issues like spark cuts out when hot. It has a new coil too. Has anyone had an issue with the pickups going bad inside the dist?

So flippin hot the grease smokes on the block when I set it up...never misses a beat
Have you put the heat conducting grease under your new module when you installed it ?
If you have not , that may be the cause of your problems...
