Most articles I have read were pertaining to stock type headers. I think upward facing open headers are a different as far as heat transfer and resistance compared to stock type exhaust systems. IDK?

I would imagine the effects outlined in those articles wouldnt be as severe in the derby application.
One, they're out in the air, through the hood and two, except for maybe Mayhem, most shows dont run for over an hour.

Will it catch on fire...No, it will not. Made of Fiberglass and other non flammable stuff
Will it help ,yes, keeps heat off your plug wires and helps it get out of under the hood as well as helps slightly with exhaust scavaging effects
Should i wrap the whole thing?? No, just the individual pipes.... Let the top half of the header shed heat
Will condensation destroy my headers by rotting them.... No, i have ran sets wrapped for 10 plus years and they are still perfect under the wrap.. We dont heat cycle them everyday like a driver car....

I have mine wrapped up to the collector. Only down side I have found is when you run in a downpour in Princeton IL with 8" of mud on the track all the rain in the wrap steams like a bastard. Just something else you have to look thru while driving in the rain.

IMO, header wrap and get some spark plug wire sleeves.

Perhaps I should weigh in on this, since they are my pipes we're talking about. The first thing you should do is apply the Wecrash "does it win Mayhem" logic. If wrapped headers have never won Mayhem, then 1. you don't need it and 2. it will harm your engine. Just kidding guys. ;D I don't have any real opinion on header wrap. If you want to use it go right ahead. It can look pretty cool if applied nice and neat. There's a nice pic of one of my customer's rides on Facebook with header wrap. Go check it out. www.facebook.com/hillbillyss?ref=hl If there are any performance benefits I'm not aware of any. And as far as rust I wouldn't worry too much, your tubes are aluminized. I'd be willing to bet they stand a greater chance of getting smashed than rusting out.

while little things like header wrap wont win you a trophy, the cumlative effort of alot of little things will....
header wrap keeps heat off your plug wires, gasket maker on the porcelin keeps the plug wires on the plugs, and a gob on your hei will keep the wires plugged in, making sure all wiring is neat and not going to chafe on the body will keep the ignition firing while zip ties on the dist cap will keep that heavy coil cap on the dist.,,, now in effect you have a reliable ignition system as long as your timing is set correctly to run hot,,,
go through your fuel system with the same mentality, then on to your cooling system and on to your driveline and pretty sure you have a reliable car on the track.
its no magic bullet but its another ingredient in a good receipe........

What is everybodies opinion on the Collector with the flare? Does it actually help your motor?
And i've heard the rumor that the shorter your headers are, the louder your motor is, Is this true?

I have heard that if they are a bit longer and have the collector that you have better back pressure and low end performance.. just what unheard though..
