I have a early 80's bumper (steel backed) (dont remember what its off of) our rules say loaded bumpers allowed, i want to keep the bumper some what lite, as its for a compact. is a fully seam welded bumper almost as strong as a loaded bumper? also to cut back on weight has any one tried to cover all the holes in a bumper and load it right to the brim with expanding spray foam?

For your use I'd just seam weld it and go.

Not sure if i missed it or i am looking in the wrong area...
My local rules say we can run a 4"x4" square tube 50" long as a front bumper. We can also reinforce 6" of the frame to "help keep the bumper on". this is my first pro mini build. Any suggestions for reinforcing the 6"?

So I think they pulled a lot of the rules from them.

Is your fair Welland? Niagara exhibition I think they call it?
No. Uxbridge. roughly 30 min west of lindsay
Oh I see I see, that's too north for me I'm down in the Niagara region of Ontario. But anyways to answer your question, Remove old bumper and brackets, should be left with 3 screws sticking out the front of the frame, cut those off and trim up the metal that is folding it. Once that's trimmed you can put a bumper shock in 2"x5" and make it 6" long that will go into the frame and for your bumper shock. Weld up your 4x4 to front of those bumper shocks. Hammer it in then put a nice bead of weld all the way around where the back of your 4x4 and shock goes into the frame. Then weld 2 plates top and bottom to your 4x4 and the frame. Don't go past the 6" mark on the frame. 9.5" makes a good plate do that top and bottom. Sides can be either a piece of 4x4 angle iron welded or use a 3" gusset from the back of the bumper to the frame. Any questions and I can up load a phot of what my bumper looks like as a guid line. I'd post it in Toyota thread tho. Good luck

anyone run a 77 Bonneville bumper? backing looks decent, but crazy big vent holes in the center scare me. Going on a W-body, not allowed to load, will seam weld.

Are you sure its a 77'? from what I've found 77-79' are flat and have vent holes but aren't too large. 80-81' are pointed and have large vent holes right next to each other in the center of the bumper. If its like the 80-81' bumpers I wouldn't run it unless they can be closed out.

Must be an 80-81 then, it has a point and the vents are rather large and right next to each other.
