Yes cuz the piece that the fork slides back and forth on the 2-3 gears I took out also so that there is nothing there to lock the gears together

How did you get it out? Cutting disk? It was a smart move to remove it in my opinion. Leaving it in would cause serious problems if you removed only shifting fork.

I see it as un needed work, I've never had a problem with 3rd magically engaging. But there's a first time for everything I guess.

I pulled side cover off removed the fork welded the arm in place then pulled the 5 bolts on tail shaft slide it back then took that other peice out

Sounds like a lot of work to me. I by no means am a 3 speed expert. But I have 6 good hard runs on my same 3 speed and I never removed any of the shift forks for 2nd and 3rd. I just took the external lever off and threaded a bolt back into the hole so all the oil wouldn't run out. I guess I haven't had any problems. I don't see why it would be a problem, these transmissions came in passenger vehicles that went down the road every day do you guys think they just jumped into another gear by themselves?? I guess anything is possible, but it just seems like a lot of work to me.

^^^agreed I've been running a manual for 7 years now and never had a lick of problems until I switched to chevy engines and found out how junk saginaws are.

Are you breaking cases on the saginaw? Thats what i am running and havent broke one yet but i built a protector for it. I am actually quite impressed with mine but i am sure it will hAppen eventually

^^^agreed I've been running a manual for 7 years now and never had a lick of problems until I switched to chevy engines and found out how junk saginaws are. I,ll give you 30 a piece for every saginaw 3 speed u got. Thats x2 "junk" price at the scrap yard.

Between 3 of us we've broke 5 this year. Maybe we just run our stuff a wee bit harder No we've been blowing internals apart. Switched to muncies and haven't had a problem.

Yea muncies are suppose to be better, but they are harder to come by it seems like. I just make sure my wheels are locjed up before i go slamming it into another gear!! Lol

Next year is my first to experience with one. Just woulndering on another thing. I know it will need a longer pilot bearing but how much more will I need to shim the throw out bearing it has 3 spacers behind it. If the dp is 1/4 wall should I space it just a 1/4 or 1/4 with the spacers.

The shirt collar cheater111 took out loves to slide around. Especially when your at full contact. Yes everyday 3 speeds dont jump gears because the side plate is gated to keep the shift fork in a nuetral position. Removing the shift fork is allowing the syncro ring to slide which is what its designed to do. Changing five trannies sounds like more work than taking the ring off to me. My saganaw has 6 derbys n 3 figure8's on it. I,ll give you 40 a piece blackmopar.
