So I'm running 3 speeds with a slider shaft. I run stock shows shows and dont allow bracing of tranny. They seem to break rather easily. Any suggestions? Also considering going to 4 speed top loader. What's the best way to connect The slider as they are different from the 3 speed tailshaft??

Have access to two Saginaw 3 speeds and am debating on switching over to manual trans setup. I simply haven't been having luck with auto trans lately. I have no experience with the setups, I have a clutch pedal and wildwood master cylinder already, but I'm not sure how to go about hooking it up. Should I use a cable or should I go hydraulic? Which is easier? Which is more reliable? Is there anything special besides a shatterproof bell that I will need to buy or fabricate? Also, I'm assuming I will need to change flywheels (355 sbc 010 block). What flywheel do I need to look for? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

^^^ Prolly want a 168 tooth flywheel. Have it surfaced unless its new.. Check the teeth.. Biggest clutch you csn fit.. Its usually cheap for the big one.. Cable is stiffer than hydro... But almost 100 percent reliable.. Dont crunch the 1-R shift.. Slip it in or rock it.. Ears are soft if any outside pressure is put against it.. There are better transmissions out there.. But if you have access to saginaws, why not..

Pretty simple on the 4 speed, the yoke is already fixed on them, so we take the yokes off, take them to a machine shop and have them weld a plate on them for the slider to bolt to. Might not be totally true, but the 4 speeds are tough as nails. You don't have to worry about gears either.

The sm465's are tough as nails.. Just a little wonky to squeeze in and mount..

Is there any way that a gm sm465 transmission can be adapted to a BBM engine?

Closer to Illinois the better but will pay shipping if necessary. Ive been hearing chatter about the SM465. How do you guys like them? Most just run the little 3 speeds and break them constantly, so I was considering trying out the 465. The fit doesn't bother me because I completely cut out the tranny tunnel anyway. Also did you guys make a shatter guard or did you find a steel one? I havent been able to locate a steel bell for the SM 465.

I hope you weld a new or bigger tunnel in.. Ive seen way to many trans explode or driveshafts even with scattersheild id never run it without a tunnel thats just asking for it. Yeah its just sheetmetal but thats still something else to take the brunt of the explosion other than you

Good point. We have always cut them out for ease. Makes life simple when running the cable shifter, the tranny lines and cutting firewall for distributer clearance. Guess I need to look at it differently.

Guess I need to look at it differently. I cut firewall for distributor but i run a 2"pipe welded thru the floor to run my shifter cable thru and same for trans cooler lines. Just safety anf plus the floors add strength to the car. I leave as much as possible. No disrespect at all just hate to see more people lose legs or lives over something like that
