Does anyone have any experience drilling and tapping these? Most are case hardened I believe, which means the first 1/2" or so is gonna be a pain. I have a solid carbide bit coming to get through the hard stuff. Any certain RPM you guys run? Have you broken a carbide bit doing this? I've done all mine with my battery powered hand drill. Slow with lots of coolant or you'll be working against yourself and work hardening the material.

So I'm running a ford ranger xlt with a 2.9 v6 and a 5speed manual transmission do u think that it will be ok or something to worry about?

Where can I find a heavy duty muncie 3 speed, what vehicles had these? I see there is HD and standard 10 spline muncie.

Well where do I find a unicorn besides ebay? at that crazy old timers place on the dirt road outside of town with 1,000 posted signs surrounding 100's of vehicles rotting into the ground. Atleast thats where you can find them around my way. Bring him a 6 pack of beer and then he lets you in.

My local craigslist has lots of muncie 3 speeds but shopping on eBay I saw one advertised as a heavy duty, I rather grab a HD Version, just haven't seen any besides on ebay.

I have 2 Muncies neither have the 5th mounting ear. I have 2 or 3 Saginaw with the 5th ear.

Is a pickup Muncie stronger than a car? Which will have a better ratio for derby?

Only real difference between pickup and car muncies is the center mounting ear on top. Some will say it adds some strength to top of case, some will say that it doesn't make much difference. Regardless, if you have Muncie 3 speed I would strongly recommend bracing it so it doesn't break since they are so hard to find as well as some of the parts are getting harder and harder to come by. The ratio difference you will find in the 6 digit/letter code stamped into case bottom right of side cover. Last letter A=3.03:1 1st gear last letter B=2.42:1 1st gear ratio.

Why do you guys suggest not running 4.11 or shorter with a 3 speed when an automatic with the same 1st gear ratio runs 4.56 to 5.12 all day long?
Some of you say 4.11 is about max

So I'm running 3 speeds with a slider shaft. I run stock shows shows and dont allow bracing of tranny. They seem to break rather easily. Any suggestions? Also considering going to 4 speed top loader. What's the best way to connect The slider as they are different from the 3 speed tailshaft??
