Hi gents. I got an issue a friend picked up a 90 302 for free. The cam in it is bad and te cam bearings are toast. But we have a non roller 302 that we broke the crank in a while back. Can I swap the cam from the non roller too the roller block or no. If I can what all do I need to do and what parts do I need to take from the non roller too install the non roller cam in the roller block?

Just get cam bearings for a non roller since they are toast anyways. Make sure you get the correct lifter for your cam, and get the push rods from the non roller.

If you are going to use the old lifters then make sure they go in the same exact spot on the cam.

He is trying to do this as cheap as possible. Single parent budget. So I can just use the lifters rods and cam from my non roller 302. Ill just have him get new bearings. I won't have to clearance pistons or anything right?. I would just replace crank in the non roller but it busted the bottom of the block up pretty good. What would be the pros and cons of using the flat tappet instead of the roller?

Is it a bigger than stock cam? If not, no clearance is needed, is it a lower end out of a mustang? If so, the pistons probably have valve reliefs already.

I prefer the roller, less upper end friction, but I've run both. Why do you think the cam is bad on the roller motor?

We found 3 cracks in The roller cam. And yes the non roller is out of a mustang. I'm just trying to help him get an engine together so he can have some fun this year.

Read back a little in this forum, I had the same problem and didn't find a solution. The guys on here had lots of great ideas and were more than helpful. I am pulling my engine and putting a different one in. Drive it like you stole it!!

I had a similar issue last year when I switched to the carb setup I bumped my idle up a little bit and readjusted fuel pressure. And it was good.

I'm getting a 351w built by an Engine shop where I live that does a lot of dirt track and drag racing machine work and engines. So am trying to figure out how to go about making a cradle/engine protector for a SBF. If anyone has any ideas/tips/pictures I'd really appreciate it.

big junk smog motor. decent power. same bellhousing pattern as 429-460, and same distributor. Heads are really close to A arm brackets hard to get upright headers on them. Not near my first choice of motor but if it runs good make sure it starts hot and it should work.

Bought a 351w that has about 30k on a rebuild. Has flat top pistons, very mild can, and stock intake. I have a edelbrock rpm intake and a set of gt40p heads that will be going on, my question is what cam would work best with that combination? Also considered leaving the current cam in and seeing how it worked with the 1.7 rockers but since it's going to be apart anyway I would rather do it all at once.
