9i have a 97 and had the same problem, i had to get a junkyard cluster to get it going again. the relearn will only work with the cluster from what i found out. then after getting running disconnect the vATSplug by the cylinder while the car is running. and do not disconnect your battery after that.and it shouldnt engage again.

96 lumina, security light stays on all the time while running. Tried reading the key with my meter and a key reader at the dealer but neither read anything. Car runs and drives but I'm worried about it not starting during the derby. Any other way of finding the resistance without trying all 15 of them or don't worry about it since it runs as is?

Look to see if it has already been bypassed. Just a first thought.

Yeah if it's running now with no problems I don't see it being a problem in the future. C4 is probably right...

Checked to see if it was already bypassed and couldn't find anywhere where it was. Even with the vats wires unplugged under the column it still starts, just security light stays on. Going to hope that whatever is wrong with the system lets it keep starting. Happened years ago when I went to unload the car it wouldn't start, don't want to go through that again.

If someone had already bypassed it, they would surely have done it right in that little 2 wire harness under the column, where it is somewhat easy access.

Wow that's real crazy that you can unplug it and it still works. I wonder if you have a flashed PCM that bypasses the security system all together...
EDIT: nvm. I read that wrong. I thought you unplugged the connector to the VATS box itself...

The chip that was in the key had 3831 stamped on it. Possibly the resistance value of the chip? Picked up a resistor just in case it decides to quit starting but for now I will take it. It only has to start a few more times. Dont know what error in the ECU would default to starting, figured it would disable the car as soon as there was any problem.

Can someone tell me if the below is similar to the other security problems or something else.
Its a 94 Lesabre and if I turn the key to ON the security light is lit up, does not blink, and does not go away. If I try to start the car the engine turns but there is no spark and no power to the fuel pump. Could this be a PCM issue?

Olds cutlass supreme 3100, took the dash out yesterday cut the dash cluster wires, started it up at quiting time just off starting fluid because I didn't have pump hooked up, then today I put my battery cables on it went to turn the key and it won't turn over but can jump over starter and it will fire up for a second and shut off

Where did you hook your battery up at? Are you still starting off the key, I'm guessing? Did you cut out the VATS box that's under the passenger airbag?

Batter cables are straight from starter to battery, and it didn't have a passenger side airbag just drivers, what's the vats box look like, and still running off key

Small black box a bit larger than a deck of cards with a mint green plug. Car won't run without it, unless it's carbed...it cuts the fuel pump and the injectors...
