I'll start off.
'98 Cavi. Does not have the chipped key, but has anti-theft lit up all over the cluster. Ran fine at quitting time last night, even after all the dash stripping, etc. I was reasonably pleased with myself. I never unplugged the instrument cluster. Did some more work on it this afternoon, but nothing that entailed wiring.
Went to fire it up at quitting time today...no go.
Symptoms: Cranks fine. Fires up for a split second and dies. Must turn key off and back on to get it to fire again.
I know the reset procedure has been posted on here a few times. Could someone please post it for keeps this time. Or perhaps even a bypass procedure. At the derby would not be a good time for the car to think that it is being stolen.
Thanks.

Make sure the cluster is plugged in and power accessory fuse is good under the good coming from positive battery cable. Turn car on let it stall and wait for theft light to stop blinking (approx. 10 mins) when it stops blinking turn ignition off and pull key out for 30 seconds and try again. Should fire up.

Whadduya know....magic. Turned key on (with fuel pump off...no sense burning that for this), walked away for 10-15 minutes, came back, "anti-theft" light had quit flashing, and was on solid. Turned on fuel pump and cranked...fired right up, and di so several times in a row. Thanks guys.
I will leave this at the top for awhile to gather some more info on other systems and other anti theft problems, then I will put it into the locator, so we won't have a new thread for it every week, cauase I know the handful of guys that know about this stuff will tire of explaining it over and over.

Go to you tube and look up vats bypass. if you have the chip key you can use a micro meter to test what ohm it puts out. than by a chip for 30 cents that eliminates the vats. I wish I could bypass my 04 chevy truck I'm having problems with it.

I wish I could bypass my 04 chevy truck I'm having problems with it. this is correct. I'll have to check with a buddy who went through this on a 94 LeSabre, but he discovered there were only like 8 different resistance values used. He went to Radio Shack and bought all 8, then there is a wire in the column you splice into. He tried each one until he found the one that worked. Now, with the lock cyl removed, you can turn the mechanism with pliers and go. I'll try to get more complete info for you guys on that.
