I did my first set of doubled tires removing the inner tire's bead. I must say, it's 10x easier to cut the bead off of the inner tire.

I've never (doubled) tires before but I usually put flaps on the outside of my 700x15 mudders and steers and haven't had any pop soo far knock on wood. Iv got a lot of radial car tires so I just cut the side walls out of them and put them between the outside need and the rim and seeks up nicely. Looks a little goofy if u don't do it just right but oh well. got any pics or help on how you put the flaps on It's literally just as he said. Use a Sawzall to cut the sidewalls out of a regular tire, put it between the rim and your derby tire, inflate tube in the derby tire. Done. Most guys I've seen do it try to use a fairly tall tire to cut so it covers more of the derby tire. I personally don't like just the flaps because it doesn't provide any protection to the tread, but with that being said, it's easier than doubling and does help out tremendously with sidewall punctures.

Going to have to try this, sounds extremely faster then doubling and will work well for short runs

I've got flats with 8 and 10 ply skidders. Both where threw the side wall and by the looks of the 8 ply half of the side is gone so i dont think doubled would of helped. When I doubled the 10 ply I took a tape and measured the inside. Can't remember what size I used.

I've always been told "2 sizes smaller." Easier with the newer tire sizes, but if you know the older tire sizes, it would help.

I read this whole thread, but maybe i missed it... Did anyone figure out what size the stuffer needs to be for a 27x8.50R15 skid tire?

I have read on here and heard of people cutting the bead off the inner tire to mount on a rim. My question is does this make the bead weaker? Or does it not make much of a difference?

Yes it does make a difference. Having the whole tire in the tire is the best way to do it. Yes it is harder to do but it works much better!

But I've only done one and done derbies. I get part way through and get passed and cut the bead. Oh well.

I did not read everything here but I found that 185/70R14 are the perfect size if you cut the beads off of them. Problem is I am having trouble finding more of them.

I think I may have some of those out in the tire rack. If I remember right my brothers escort wagon had that size on it.
