Alrighty, so iv got a 78 diplomat with this spark control junk. And everything i do doesn't help, I just wanna burn the damn car. I would like to swap it over to a regular ol vaccuum advance set up but I'm not exactly sure how.. Any one know what all I can try before I try and swap distributes and stuff? Thanks!

Switching to points ignition is the quickest & easiest way to go. I know theres some diagrams on the website somewhere to show you howto wire it also. Quite simple actually.

what problems you having? my last two cars had lean burn(electronic spark control) and i just relocated the computer module in the air cleaner into the car. ran way beter than running points especially when starting thanks to the dual pick ups in the distributor. won one demo and won a consolation heat the next year running it....

That's awesome! I was Gunna put that stuff In car yeah! Uhm it's not advanving My spark near quick enough, when i give it lots of throttle it wants To die, it's suckin air and fuel but runs Like a twos legged mule! If I ease on the throttle it's good, but that's no good in a derby..

check the Mopar engines thread, it's all in there. If you want my opinion the short version is to go to Auto Zone, get a points distributor for a 1969 Plymouth Fury for $40, simple swap, chuck all the Lean Burn bull$hit, and life is good. I'll skip the HEI debate for now.

sorry, I forgot to say to get the distributor for a 1969 Plymouth Fury with a 318. Also get the ballast resistor for the same model. How to wire them is in the threads that are linked in the message above, along with a technical discussion of why I recommend this setup. You can use the carb and coil that you already have.
Clean off all the wiring and vacuum hoses from the top of the engine and start over. Plug off all vacuum ports that are left on the intake or carb. Starting from scratch should eliminate most of the potential problems. You can also run the charging system separately, again it's all in the tips threads above. Best to ask specific questions about this stuff in those tips threads so that the answers are preserved for the next guy who has the same problem.

does the $75 include the core charge? Auto Zone will take the old Lean Burn distributor as the core for the new points distributor
