If you did that I wouldn't worry about the firewall. She's going to abort infront of the leafs next.

Gas tank protector and down bars bolted to the shackles helps that.

Will these cars hold up versus pacers and mavericks? I'm running go derby rules which are very laid back, I'm allowed 48 inches of plating per frame rail, I'm allowed to shorten frame and weld on bumper brackets which don't count against my 48 inches, I'm also allowed 3 separate 1 inch diameter pieces of all thread to go through the hood and frame as well as change out body bolts to 1 inch all thread. I can weld a arms down. And i am planning on putting a chrysler pointy on the front. Basically the only thing I really can't do is weld body to frame.

I'm familiar with their rules and believe now that they are 108, this would be the perfect car for it.

I have never built one. Just based on their rules and how these cars are put together..... Under current management, it won't happen, but if we ever decide to run their rules again, it will probably be with one or 2 of these. I've always been a fan of less than pointy, but have seen pix around of heavily built 2nd gen's that have held them.
What most of the DDRA (go-derby) crowd fails to realize is that at 108", the Pacers, Gremlins & Mavericks will hold their own (to a degree), but are over rated. Not knocking the drivers there at all...some of the hardest cars around. Just saying that with 108 being a relatively new thing there, a few cats are still trapped in the bag.

With your rules, I think this car could last a very long time. Might be worth it to spend the money. And structurally, there is no significant difference between your 2 cars.

So I just recently found out that I can build a leaf set up to 9 leafs. With this car being a unibody rearend would It be better to build a straight leaf it set and lower the back end with a wedge or just build a regular 9 stack and keep the car as level as possible

IMO structurally, a "flat pack" is always better than an arched set of leafs for derby application.

And tie your halo to the frame right behind the leaf perch.
