I have a 327 (67 truck motor) with no accessory holes in heads I found a guy with 3973487 heads the 1.94 not the 2.02, is this a good casting for derby? I dont care about making power, just need another motor that I can rely on. I did put a cam and double roller timing set in it and will have aluminium intake hei and Holley 2 barrel

I’ve got a 350. Stock shortblock, comp cams 268h cam, crank was polished and turned according to engine builder. I put summit racing heads, edelbrock air gap 7501 intake, Holley 4412 carb. It runs pretty good, and my issues are at the start of the heat almost every hit I make or take it stalls out, but once it warms up it runs like you put rubbing alcohol on a cats ass. I got my idle turned up a bit on my ski pedal. What can I do to fix that?
And another issue I got is every derby I’ve run with this engine it throws the fan belt. I bought a new water pump pulley. I’m using the alternator, water pump, and the crank. Should eliminate the alternator?

I dont run an alternator, when it does is there a puff of black smoke? If so you need to extend the bowl breather I think (theres a post about it earlier in this thread)

I was throwing V belts a lot so I switched mine over to newer GM serpentine pullies and haven't thrown one since.

Got a go pro? If so... mount it on the inside of the front fender and aim it at your belts..... go run the hell out of it and once it throws, study the video..... you probably don’t have everything lined up straight enough... I run an alternator and power steering and have spun engines over 10k without losing a belt.....
Your stalling issue could be a million things.... but most likely it’s ignition or carb related.... what are your spark plugs telling you???

I think it might be my crank pulley is bent a hair but I’m not 100% sure yet. My engine builder said it could be my harmonic balancer, and I should think about getting a solid harmonic balancer. My spark plugs all looked fine when I replaced them after the 2nd run this year.

Then I still run a V belt for power steering. The serpentine pullies I run have two V belt grooves on the back of them. It works out real nice. I have found them on 86-87 Caprices, Pick Ups and Vans.

Anyone been able to get ahold of Colyer past couple of weeks? Sent messages to both fb pages and nothing for 2 weeks. Don’t see a number on either page to call. May call Baldwin Monday morning.
