I'm going to build a derby motor and thought about running alcohol. Is there benifits or disadvantages to running alky?

What's the reason for staying away from alcohol? What problems do you run in to?

The off season maintenance on an alchohol carb. is a b!tch. Have to have fuel line adapted to run alky because regular line dries out fast and cracks. Prepare to get your wallet out for that alone. you have to run a different fuel pump, different style filter, carb. You generally have to go to a race track to buy alchohol which can be a pain in the butt if your running low, unless you buy it by the barrel which you have to find a dealer. But to each their own. Ran alky for two years in a modified and it can be an asset as well as a hassle. good luck if you proceed with it.

I have two pretty stock 350`s that run great for me. The basics IMO are a good timing chain, plugs/ wires, and a carb. But that is pretty much the same with any motor ;D

I have run ethanol for a few years myself debrbying is like drag racing it only take a little bit of time to prepare for the off season as for all the alcohol resistant stuff change the pump every few runs and run steel line keep the tank sealed when not using it and there are no issues. Now as for the amount it takes to make it work the way it is suposed to work it is 65 percent more give or take each engine differs. If you run shows that last for hours run gas and a radiator if the heats are short a little alky and no rad will get you through. Here is another thing to think about properly tune on alcohol a engine puts out 25 pecent more horsepower. The big disadvantage is humidity and cold both affect alky alot more than gas
